If the screen was all white the LCD is no good and needs to be replaced. So it not turning on now might just be the screen not working but it's actually on. Just hook to iTunes and press restore that'll get you to newest software for the 2g.

16xx errors are dfu errors. Use redsnow to put phone into dfu/pwned dfu and restore in iTunes that way. I doubt that you will get it to restore without fixing the screen first. The reason iTunes won't recognize it is because it panics before it gets far enough into the boot process for the computer to see it. If I was you I'd replace the screen, making sure to disconnect battery for a few minutes, reassemble and hold home button and plug into computer. Hold home til the plug into iTunes screen appears on phone and computer sees it in recovery. If that doesn't work a dfu restore is necessary. You need to fix what you know is broke before trying to diagnose other issues. Chances are once the screen is fixed and battery disconnected you will be able to get it going.

The all white screen is a indicator the LCD is bad. Once you see the all white screen its only a matter of time until it won't work at all. Also replace the digitizer too while your at it they are pretty cheap. If you need more help post.
