Iphone 4 Front camera wont work
Alright so a while ago my front camera stopped working after I did a front screen replacement. I was told it was a software problem. I literally just updated my phone from 4.3.3 to 5.0 and my camera still doesn't work.
So basically what happens is when i tap the camera app it launches but the camera shutter doesn't open at all and the little switch between camera and video mode is sporadically turning black and gray. on and off really quick. You can change modes and all but you cannot get any signal from the front camera. I took the back off and checked the camera but IT APPEARED nothing was wrong.
WHAT DO I DO?!?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions =)

Make sure that the camera`s connector cable is properly seated (it should make a "click" sound when properly connected). Worst case is that the flex cable for the camera is torn and will have to be replaced along with the camera.

I took the phone back apart and checked the connectors. Everything was seated properly so I'm figuring it's a bad wire. I'm ordering a New camera as we speak. Thank you very much for your help

I have this same problem, my back camera works fine but when i switch to the front it glitches like you said. I replaced the front camera and cleaned all the connections. It still does the same thing. I restored it and nothing changed. Did you have any luck replacing yours? Can anyone help me. It is an at&t iphone 4. Thank you

There is a small resistor on the logic board that causes the front camera to work correctly. If it was damaged during disassembly then it will cause this issue. There is a thread dedicated to this but I can't find it for the life of me. If I do I'll post a link.
Edit: did a more generalized search and found it.

Okay thank you. Seems pretty difficult and risky though. Might have to leave it how it is.

No problem. It's a tough job for a pro let alone someone trying for the first time. An easier fix is to get a circuit writer pen and use that to connect to 2 points together. no soldering needed and it has worked for many people.

Friend
Your problem is not Software update will not help with something
If you have the tools disassembly and iPhone.
You must first change the front camera and if the problem persists
Change the rear camera
If the problem persists
Review line Alkntrul between the front and rear camera
Here's a picture showing that
Luck my friend
