    Default iPhone 3GS issues!!

Okay the iPhone 3GS went dead. I plugged it into charge but it didn't register. So I replaced the entire dock assemble and tried to charge it again. This time it actually turned on to the battery screen with a little volt symbol below it but still wouldn't charge. So I replaced the battery. Now it turns on but still doesnt charge, and as soon as I remove the charger from the phone it turns off. Also the battery percentage is out of wack. Sometimes it says 100% other times it says 1%. The main point is HELP!. I'm looking for any ideas. Maybe a simple step I've overlooked. Any help would be awesome guys.

make sure you have connected all the connections in the right order. I'm working on the same problem with my little sisters phone. I'll keep you posted.

Quick side note. I did connect all the cables in the proper order lol. But good looking out.

well ive tried all i know to solve this issue. ive also noticed if i plug it into the computer it doesnt seem to have enough juice to even power it on. it shows the apple boot logo, then it goes black. 5 seconds later it shows the apple boot logo again, then back to the black screen. and over and over again. i guess its a loss cause. if i can get it to turn on while connected to the computer im gonna try and do a restore. ill keep you informed if anything works

Error 29 is a hardware error. Even though iTune error codes are never very specific to what the exact problem is. Error 29 is most commonly experienced on 3GS with incompatible battery. From the beginning with your battery replacement you have had battery issues, and now, with a restore iTunes has confirmed that your battery is not compatible with your specific iPhone. You need a battery with the same APN number as the original battery that came with this iPhone. If you do not know the orignial APN then you may have to try several batteries until you get a compatible one. But the one you have now is incompatible. If this is a so called "OEM" battery then at least now you know one APN to avoid.

where do i locate the APN number at on the battery. also would that keep the phone from charging the battery. the reason i ask is because the phone is still not charging. the only way i could get it to connect to itunes was to place the battery in another phone and charge it then place it back in the broken 3gs.

APN Apple Part Number, is on the battery label. Grab the Original Battery you removed and get a battery with that APN #. If this was my iPhone, I would start trouble shooting with things I knew were wrong. If the APN # is wrong for your iPhone get a Battery with a compatible APN#. There now one problem solved. See if any other problems arrise and then solve them.

Like I said in my first post, "Error 29 is a hardware error. Even though iTune error codes are never very specific to what the exact problem is. Error 29 is most commonly experienced on 3GS with incompatible battery."

So when you finally solve your Error 29 problem, post back so everyone can learn what you discovered.

okay put a new battery in it tonight with matching APN. hit restore on iTunes and still got error 29. would a faulty dock connector assembly cause this? Anyway any added help is appreciated.

well i had a break through in the early hours. i decided to jailbreak if anyway possible on 4.3.3 using redsnow. and somehow it worked so im thankful for that. iphone seems to be working great. fingers crossed that it stays that way.

okay update: it's now randomly rebooting over and over. and when plugged into the charger it's still not charging. next step anyone
