The white 3g/3gs digitizers can have some proximity sensor problems so be careful.

Check eBay. If you have the extra cash, make it easier on yourself and get the back housing with the bezel pre-installed.
I've done probably 20 white 3G and 3Gs digitizers and I've never had a problem so I can't agree with Emicron on that one.

I've had proximity sensor issues also. Never tried the sharpie trick on these - perhaps it would help. The ones I've used are light gray on the inside.
Also consider that if you are going for the complete "white" look, you might want to use a white mid-frame. They are not perfect however. I had one that was very tight and minor damage to the edge can be visible. When done right it is the ultimate look.

Something else to try other than the sharpie trick is to put clear screen protector over the inside proximity sensor area, at least on the iphone 4 guess it wouldn't work on the 3g/3gs because of the adhesive.

I have a white housing with black bezel already attached for sale for $50 shipped. LMK if you are interested. It's a high quality one too. I never even unwrapped it fully because my phone broke before I got to install it, so I had to get a new 3GS from Apple, making a new back plate pointless.
