Took 2 hours
(non-magnetic screw driver)
It was worth it
Funky color, I know, but it's pretty fun changing the housing

I converted my 3G to red and sold for $200. That was last year though. I actually didn't bother to fix the power and vibrate buttons and still got a pretty penny out of it locally. Might be worth still $200 on eBay if fully functional.

The green 3G i actually sold for 250.
Been having some trouble selling the blue one at that price. probably gonna lower it a bit.
The color housings i buy are about 35$ and they come with the headphone flex already installed. which saves some time.
i have never had a problem with the camera being shaded the color

Where do you buy your housings? The ones I used to buy from an eBay seller in Hong Kong were $38 and took a month or more to get here. Now they're not listing anymore so I don't have an option other than just buying the housing itself and doing all the work. Cheaper but not as easy.

Where do you get your housings with the flex cable installed for $35? I just put together a red 3gs with a red bezel. The red bezel wasn't perfect and now I can't install the 3rd volume screw (hole not drilled all the way through).

i get them from a wholesaler based out of Shenzhen China.
They will not sell you one housing, and that 35$ does not in include the shipping charges, which are minimal on a 800$+ order.

to get an idea of how many different iphone part wholesalers based out of shenzen, its insane. where all of the iphone repair business get their parts from.
PM if you actually want to know more...

how does the bezel fit?:]
03-14-2011, 07:53 AM #12
After some slight bending, the bezel seems to fit pretty well. The corners look great and it fits flat to the back all the way around. It bulges only very slightly on the side with the volume, possibly due to the back, but barely noticible. The real problem is that I can't put the 3rd screw in to secure the volume switch.

You think i can spraypaint it if i tape the apple logo? I also want to paint my iphone but dont want to shell out 30 bcuks for housing

you could but i doubt it would look very good..and spray paint would wear off on your hands..
