I've been using the Apple earbuds with the mic which are supplied with the iPhone - with the 3 buttons.
I was tying to use them when snowboarding, but as the buttons are so small, it was difficult to answer the phone etc - without taking off my mitts.
My aim is to reproduce the signal of the middle button (I'm not fussed about the volume controls) - so that I can make a cable with a LARGE button that I can stick in my pocket for answering the phone / skipping tracks without taking my gloves off!
I know Apple has the 3 button version copyrighted and its only available under the 'made for ipod' labelling, but I was hoping there is something I can do to replicate just the one button?
If anyone can provide any info I'd be most appreciative.
I'm away on a boarding holiday in 4 weeks - so I want to get something made up soon!

Surely you could just wire your own button into the headphones? It may be unsightly, but all you will need is a soldering iron, solder, a bit of wire and a PTM switch. You can get all for under $10 on eBay, just look around online.
