iPhone won't charge
I got a 3GS running 4.2.1
It will not charge
It only charges after it's completely dead
Also I looked inside there are only 3 screws holding the mother board
I tried a million USB chargers but they just won't charge properly
The phone doesn't even recognize any of them
When I plug it in it just turns on but doesn't charge

If it does not charge it's one of two things.
It's a bad charge port, which is a pretty easy fix (if you know how to take the iPhone apart)
or
You have a bad connector on the mainboard from maybe water damage or something else. Which... cannot be fixed.
It's probably the charger port.

This happened to me on a 3G. It was working fine until I took out the motherboard to fix the sleep button. After reasambeling (with all the screws) it does what u describe, doesn't say that is charging but if you leave overnight it shows up charged the next day

Is this 3gs iPhone a new bootrom? I believe new bootrom 3gs have battery compatibility issues. If so, next time you lift the logic board check to see if battery is Original with correct Apple Part Number APN for new bootrom 3gs.
Good luck,
Brad

Found this information on the web:
Newer iPhone 3gs may have a problem with (iTune restore Error 29) and (incorrect battery percentage reading) when using older battery Apple part number (APN) 616-0428 or 616-0431. This is due to the small circuit board on the battery connector being incompatible. This battery circuit board is removable, replaceable with desolding.
Newer iPhone 3gs seem to work with Apple part number (APN) 616-0433, 616-0434, or 616-0435 battery.
You say you "restored couple of times" did you get Error 29. You didn't mention it, so I doubt you have this problem.
