So, just like hundreds of people, I chipped a small part off of my FPC connector on the logic board. My phone works fine, but the proximity sensor on the top doesnt work. So, my screen stays on during calls and I hit random buttons and mute myself all the time.
Does anybody know of a "work-around" or software patch that I could use to manually tell me screen to shut off until I press the home button or something? Any Ideas?
I'm trying to get creative so I dont have to try and resolder a part, or pay $60 for someone else to do it.
Any ideas would be great....

only way around this via "software" is to "lock" the phone while in a call. this means, click the home button while in a call, and then click the power button. but this is not at all a means to an end when fixing this connector.

Thats what I've been doing. I'm going to replace the connector myself, I'm not one to pay somebody to do something I could learn to do myself. I know its hard, but I have the technical background and just need the tools.

Well, like i said in the other thread topic, the tools are listed in my blog site. Its certainly not a walk in the park, but good luck. Let me know if you change your mind.

I admire your skill. Can you tell me model of your soldering and also where can I get that tiny 0.008' soldering tips?
I need to repair connector number 4.
