Where is a decent place to buy a colored housing for the 3G?

They sell them on Ebay but the quality varies. I recently ordered a bezel and light blue housing from chinaontrade.com and the housing is about the best quality ive come across yet. You could check them out,but it will take a couple weeks to come because its coming from china...but so are most of the housings you find on Ebay =P

Yup, Chinese new year. All businesses closed for about 15 days.

The newer housings are much better quality on ebay. I got 2 recently and they are very good. They are only about $7 shipped.

Yes, there are only about 5 different factories producing the colored housings in China. They have stepped up quality control lately and we are seeing much better results in the last few months.

thanks. I was scared because there's so many sites offering housings. I guess I'll buy a green one and paint my spare, just to see if it would work.

[quote=CupertinoiPhone;5123912]I would recommend not changing the housing, all the housing in the market are fake or refurbished.
Apple does not allow the Original Back Housing to be sold in the market.

The Fake one will have battery contact issues as the Housing Screw Mounts are not good.

If you want to still do it, go for refurbished one instead.

is there a step by step guide on removing everything and replacing housing then putting it back together?

  15. #14
Check the guides section. I made a guide on how to do everything up to the battery replacement and how to put it back again. You will have to figure out the rest

does this post mean that all the ebay housings are junk and cause issues or were you calling BS on the other person?

  19. #17
No, this was a spam post by a user posting links to his store. Not all housings on ebay are junk, but most after market ones are. It is always recommended to use OEM parts.

ok, what is it that makes them bad...screws not lining up or something else? i cracked the rear housing on mine and all the aftermarket ones are obviously much cheaper but i dont want to buy it if im gunna have major issues making it work

You can always just pay someone like Melech to do it for you, i think there are a couple others that can do it aswell.

They tend to be thinner and larger. They do not line up with the bezel properly and most are cheaply painted to where after minimal use the paint begins to chip away.
