    Default 3G volume button issuse
Recently my 8gig 3G's volume, silent and lock buttons have stopped working or so I thought. I found that if I hold in on the ear piece all the buttons work. I've searched around and I found one other account of this and I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it. I would like to avoid opening the phone till I know what to do to fix it.

If you still have warranty, get it replaced. If you don't, the flex cable is most likely faulty and needs to be replaced.

Yes, the Flex cable needs to be replaced and should solve all of these issues.

Thanks for the replys. I guess I'll just live with it for a few months and pick up a 3Gs. I'm pretty good with a soldering iron but my phone still works and I don't feel like killing it till I'm up for renewal in June.

There is no soldering involved in this repair.

Really? I read the flex cable repair thread and got pretty put off of the idea. Would you mind explaining what this would entail?

You read the flex cable repair thread for the 1st gen iPhone. All you have to do is remove a bunch of screws, replace the flex cable, then replace all of the screws. There are guides all over the Internet on how to do this.
