iPhone Feared Dead!
Hey forum.
I know this issue has been covered 100 times over.. but i think my one is a bit unique.
I understand what is going on, but I'd like a second opinion.
So, the Scenario:
iPhone Wont Turn on. When plugged into my PC, the screen flickers, but never gets to the Apple Logo.
When Plugged into the Wall Charger, The apple logo appears, but dies after 10 seconds.
I believe that the Wall Charger is providing sufficient power to boot the phone, but cannot sustain enough power to boot the OS.
So, now i ask. What do I do? Seeking apple help is out of the question..
I'm thinking replace the Battery?
Any other suggestions?

Either the flex cable is bad or your battery is dead. Either way you need to do some repairs.

I don't think the flex cable is screwed.. When I have the wall charger plugged in the Silver apple logo shows up fine. But only for 10 seconds, then it dies.
Yes, I left it overnight. No luck.
I ordered a replacement battery on ebay. A 1800mAh replacement.
Hopefully that will fix it + give it some more juice.
I'll change the battery and let you know. Battery should come in about 10-14 days. It's around a 10 minute job to replace. Nice and simple.Last edited by mofolo; 01-16-2010 at 08:43 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I don't think you understand how the flex cable operates in these phones. If the new battery does not work then the flex cable is the issue.

Yes there are about 7 flex cables in the phone, well actually more than that, but there is only ONE that would cause this problem, your main power flex. There woudnt be any obvious signs of damage, other than water damage indication, but more like symptoms. The symptoms you have described indicate a damaged power flex. Which generation iPhone do you have?

Hey thought I'd give my two cents. I was doing a battery replacement once and after I put the new one in it did exactly what you're describing. Turns out the battery was bad, popped the old one in and it kicked right on. Like I said, it did EXACTLY what you're talking about. My guess is that it's the battery, give the new one a shot and keep us updated.

The new battery should solve your problem, if it doesnt we will move on to replacing the power flex.

new Battery didn't work.
Now when i start up the iPhone using the wall charger the head speaker makes a faint whistling sound. any ideas?
also when i plug in the wall charger, the iPhone doesn't automatically come on like it used to. Now i have to physically power on to get it to come up with the silver logo.Last edited by mofolo; 01-26-2010 at 09:57 PM.

Why would you need to replace the logic board? You need to replace a $1.50 flex cable in the phone!
