Wifi broke?

My iPhone says that it is unable to scan for wireless networks when I enter my wifi network information. Did I buy a broken phone?

Apparently this is an intermittent problem because now it is searching for wifi networks

"could not scan for wireless networks" stupid thing is not picking up my wifi even when it succesfully searches for it WTF!

last night at the mall it asked me if I wanted to join a public network for a moment then it didn't work. Later at home it still says that it can not scan for wireless networks. I have been doing some reading and discovered that the push mail setting was causing my phone not to receive calls some times. I changed that setting and calls are coming in reliably now. I read on the apple forum while searching for that answer that the os3 is what is causing many 2g phones to not get wifi due to overheating issues. I guess if I jailbroke my phone swifi could fix this but I don't want to do that I want it to work the right way any suggestions?

Restore to 3.1.2 in iTunes and then jailbreak with blackra1n (if you want). This will determine if it's a software issue or if it still fails it's hardware.

won't restoring it loose all of my downloads?

i would rather not jailbreak the phone

i restored it still same problem with wifi. Would downgrading the os help?

I can't find directions to downgrade the firmware any suggestions

Dammmit I just bought this phone off eBay and it's broken wish me luck in getting my money back.
