Thought I would share my iPhone 2G housing mod with you guys since this is where I started my interest in the iphone. I managed to get the housing to reflect my own image...so its pretty close to a mirror.
After 4 hours or dirty work, I think it's done!
I will definitely be doing this again, but next time i'll be using a new housing...The one i used was pretty banged up to begin with.
Let me know what you guys think

That's awesome and my advice to you would either get zagg or invisible shield to protect it from scratches to preserve that finish.

what did you use to brush it down? I used a sand block about a year ago and only got down to the second photo, then I just gave up and sold it Haha. Great work

Also, every time I sanded, i did it in a different direction to everyother time...so i never sanded in the same direction twice. This helps in making the mirror finish apparently.
I plan on selling this 2G with this mirror housing soon - when I get the time! Will probably make more and sell them as well.

i was planning on doing this to my case as well
only questions i have is
how do you remove and reapply the apple logo and camera lense?
12-09-2009, 05:34 PM #8
If you have ever opened your first gen you will notice that the apple logo is an insert that pops out, and the lens is part of the camera which also pops out.

i saw it, but i was affraid of pushing on them and breaking them
so i just push them out and they pop out?
do i need to use glue to put them back on?

Yeah the logo and camera lens generally pops back into place. A little glue will secure it in place.

Keep going! You almost have the polished look. Maybe use a higher grit sandpaper and start wet sanding more. After that, get some metal polish from an auto store and maybe some steel wool and keep polishing that bish! I guarantee it will look amazing.
