replaced headphone jack - still not working - list of fixes

Now all the other switches work but the iphone still thinks the earbuds are plugged in. I looked through the posts and came up with these three fixes... any others you can suggest?

1. plug in earbuds, play a song with ipod, turn the power off, unplug the earbuds, turn the power back on.
2. reset in the settings menu.
3. check the old and new cable to see if the correct replacement jack was used (with the copper contact on top)

im having this problem as well...i have a brand new flex cable and it works 100% except it makes the iphone turn off randomly!!!

I got the new cable to replace my old one which thought the headphones were plugged in...so i want to know how to fix this.

ive cleaned the inside the headphone jack and ive unplugged headphones heaps of times...still nothing.

any help, anyone?

If the phone makes absolutely no external sounds at all.....theres a good chance nothing is wrong with your headphone jack and something is wrong with the speaker, and it may need to be replaced.

c.e.p, dont know why it would shut the phone down randomly.

I'll bet it's your power button. Damn those things are hard to reinstall.

yeah this flex cable issue is retarted!!
i've tried two replacement flex cables and they just shut it off..but if i plug in the original one still, the phone stays on 100% no problem. just need this damn headphone jack to work!
