    Default 3GS Vibrate motor rattles
I'v read that this is a common problem on the 3GS, when i shake the phone up and down there is a pretty loud and anoying rattle, upon dissembling the phone to investigate i discovered it was the vibrate motor! I have tried a few things to secure the spinning weight to reduce it's rattle while still allowing it to spin freely with success but when the smallest amount of presure is put on the weight it fails to {(VIBRATE)} what a *!#* lol

Does anyone else experience this rattle on a 3GS Or on a 3G?

Might buy a new motor from eBay as there only cheap but not sure if theres any point as it might be the same...

    Mine doesnt.

3GS is under warranty, why didnt you just take it to Apple? Instead of voiding your warranty by taking it apart.

I didn't think removing just the screen section voids the warranty!?

But in answer to your question my nearest apple store is about 40 minute drive away lol, also i didn't wana restore as it's jailbroken lol...

Might get a new one of eBay then if you'rs doesn't do it!

ALSO: I have noticed a rattle behind the camera area when tapped (Not shaken) you got that? Not sure whats under that area not been down that far lol

Mine doesnt rattle at all. And removing the screen wont void the warranty if your good. But if they can tell its been opened AT ALL they will void the warranty. And they check the insides for fingerprints also with a light.

But at any rate, 40 mins aint that much (to me) I would do that WAY before I bought a part off ebay and fixed it myself (which I could do).

Also, you HAVE to remove the mainboard to remove the vibrate motor - and there is a "do not remove sticker" on the mainboard that you have to tear up to take the board out. And you cant remove the sticker without ripping it.

So....to do that repair, yes you will void the warranty for certain.

I'v had the motor out and i dissembled no more than the screen section (Two screws and off you go lol) and then put it back again it's easy...

I did do something stupid though and damaged some of the rubber seal at the bottom trying to pry it open might be abble to say i was cleaning out dust with a needle where it built up under the screen protector though lol

Yeah you should use a suction cup to "pull" the screen out carefully, instead of prying it.

I've never seen where you can buy the gasket. Its attached to the screen frame, not the glass. Ive seen some aftermarket frames, but they didnt have the gasket.

But unless you get a really anal apple tech, they probably wouldnt notice.
