Does 3G sim fit into 3G S?

Hey everyone. The iPhone 3G 16 GB I've got now doesn't have sound because of water damage, so I really need to get a new one. Options are - Apple/AT&T and eBay, 3G and 3G S.

My account online with AT&T tells me that the 3G no-commitment price is $549 and 3G S no-commitment price is $599.

eBay tells me 3G's are going for $300-400. 3G S's are going for $400-600.

If I buy a 3G S on eBay, can I put my old 3G sim card into the new 3G S? Will it fit, will AT&T notice, will they care? etc.

This is probably a n00b question, but I did Google it and I'm not quite sure.
