Battery died while doing reset

My wife got her new 3G s Friday. She decided to give her 1st gen iPhone to a friend. Before she did she decided to do a "clear all settings" reset. Unfortunately,she neglected to check the battery power first. The reset made it about 75% through when the battery died. Now the phone will power on, show the Apple logo, and then shut off after about 20 - 30 seconds.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? It won't even boot up far enough to be recognized by the computer to try a restore.

You may have actually bricked it.....if you cant get it to stay on, connect to a PC...there's not much you can do.
