Thread: The home button?
05-21-2009, 08:45 PM #1The home button?
So heres the deal. I just bought an 3G 16 GB Iphone of someone. It was already jailbroken and ready to be used my Tmobile which is my provider. Sadly the home button wasnt working. I dont know if I wasnt pushing enough but the home button was just not working. So I went to setting and went to Erase Content and Memory or whatever that option is. It tooks about 2 hours like it said it would and now after it was done for the last 30+ minutes the screen has been frozen. All I see is a pineapple which I know is the unlocking jailbreaking software correct?
Anyways I tried holding the home and power button as I know that is how you unlock Iphone and I am getting nothing. I am guessing it is because the home button is STILL messed up. So basically I cant get it to leave this screen with the pineapple on the front. And Im afraid when I do get it back to working the home button still won't work. What should I do??? How can I reset this and start to try and fix things? First the home button didnt work now its frozen on a screen? I am LOST!

There are quite a few reasons why the home button would work. It would be impossible to tell without diagnosing the phone in person.
Moved to proper forum.
PS - DO NOT repost this thread again....Ive deleted the other 2.
Anytime you "reset all settings" on a jailbroken phone....it will lockup like that.
The only way to fix it is by doing a restore in itunes.
However, itunes may not let you without having the phone in DFU mode...and for that you need the home button working. So give it a try.

when I plug the phone to my computer Itunes does not recognize the iphone. so where do i go from there?

It has to be in DFU mode........for which you need a working home button.
So.....your gonna have to get the home button working....and I can tell you, no one will be able to tell you what is wrong with it without having the phone in front of them.
Its a hardware issue and will have to be physically checked out by someone....I can tell you it could be many things, considering you just bought the phone, someone possibly screwed you.

I am willing to get the phone checked out but would i really be able to go to appele? i mean they will see i am not a AT&T customer and that my phone is obviously jailbroken considering the screen has that logo on it. I am willing to do anything I just dont really know where to go to get it looked at. Any suggestions?

Apple wont help you.
There is a member here, very credible....that does hardware repairs/diagnosing for members....you could send it to him and let him take a look.

Sorry... lets just talk on this one. I saw your post about how long I held it down. I held it down for at least 10 seconds maybe more. Ill even try again.

Okay. So how long did you hold down the power & home button tjlamro?
05-21-2009, 11:13 PM #11
^^Thats not gonna make the home button work. If it doesnt work to close an app, etc with 1 click...its not gonna work.

I thought the phone was stuck on the pinapple?

It is stuck onthe pineapple... but there is a chance the home button is not functioning because it wasnt working before I reset the phone.
