ok...it probably isn't a speck of salt, but there is a little round dot of something underneath the touchscreen. and ideas on how to get rid of it without taking it apart? i know there probably isn't, but i can wish i knew i shouldn't have poked a hole in the speaker to make it louder (mine is a 2G).

Doesn't have anything to do with poking holes in the speaker. It's caused from leaving it in direct sunlight for too long. It's a bubble between the screen layers. It was a problem with earlier 1st Gen iPhones. If you take it to Apple they will replace it.Dirty as I wanna be!

It doesn't hurt to just go to an Apple store and ask them. I've heard of people out of warranty just getting a swap out but it doesn't work for everyone.Dirty as I wanna be!
