PROJECT RED 3G and DIY Tutorial

I should be getting my MMi Blue casing today or tomorrow. I have no experience opening things but I'm going to do it anyway.

I'm going to open up my 3g today, just to look around and know what to expect if I buy a different back for it.

now I got it open, but what did the #3 cable do and how were you supposed to attach/detach it? I think I broke it :S

It turns out that it was the cable that runs the logic board, and you were supposed to pull up a latch. But I just ripped it out of there. Lol, at least my phone is still working, so I must have got it back in place ok...

You're being way to optimistic for something coming overseas through the holidays. I just got my hong kong package that I paid for EMS overnight delivery arrived 8 days after I bought it.

Well, like I said in the first post, if you dont follow whats going on from the descriptions/pics I have up, than I suggest NOT trying it yourself. The 3g is very "touchy".

And to do it for you, I dunno. Honestly right now I have no extra time, with the holidays and all.

I would love to have this, but after all the horror stories of trying to open the 2G i'm scared to try.

For the 2g...Black is the only color I have seen online, aside from ebay.

What might have you done for ebay to block ur account?

Not quite OEM quality....but real close. For the price, yea cant beat it.

iPhone 3G/2G Cases

CPJR, thank you for the post. Very nice work. Question on the 2G case and parts. Why do they send a new face plate. I thought on the 2G's it was an assembly that coludn't be taken apart, where the 3G's are two pieces.

You are correct, on the 2g if you try to remove the glass...99% of the time you will destroy the digitizer in the process.

I guess for the same reason alot of places sell the 2g glass (which is usually plastic) by itself....its BULLCRAP.

They sell them for $35 USD. You can also go on Ebay and you'll find them Buy It Now for $20 $4 Bucks shipping. Not bad.

I just bought another Blue Back Housing just now. Oh yeah my new Vaja Case came in the mail yesterday. Yay!!, Now I just need an iPhone. :-(

hey cpjr. umm ive been nosing around on ebay for a while and im pretty good at taking the 3g apart (except for the stupid screen) but i cant seem to find any good deals like you said. how do u manage to get them for so cheep?

I usually check once or twice a day (when Im looking).

And I will look at "ending soonest" and "newly listed" (as I have got some good deal that had BIN prices...which would have been gone quickly).
