Default Successful downgrade to iOS4. Can I go up to iOS5?
    Hi all,

I've successfully downgraded my iPhone 3GS from iOS6 to iOS4 without SHSH blobs (I had never jailbroken before and did not have them)

I am wondering if I can go up to iOS5 now without a SHSH blob? This is the version I really want but I could only find successful instructions for going down to 4.

    Kind regards
    Chris

If and only if you have an old-bootrom device.

Quick check: if your device's third through fifth characters in its serial number are **9 and then 45 or lower, then you probably have an old-bootrom device. If it's **9 followed by 40 or lower, you almost assuredly do. Anything else, you probably have a new-bootrom device (and will have a hard time keeping an untethered jailbreak without SHSH blobs).

If you do have such a device, use sn0wbreeze for Windows (don't have a good OS X tool, sorry!) to build a custom IPSW file for your device, making sure to select "Old Bootrom" if/when asked.
