The button itself may have just chosen a very inopportune time to stop working... perhaps replacing the volume button(s) would be a good bet.

How can I restore my iphone without upgrading to ios 6.1.4? When I try to restore in itunes it says it will install the latest software (6.1.4) and I want to keep 6.1.2 so that I can have an untethered jailbreak. Any help would be great.

You're not going to like this... there's currently no way to restore the device without upgrading it to iOS 6.1.4. There are some other options we can explore, like removing all Cydia tweaks, or removing all user customization on the device, leaving it as if it were new and freshly jailbroken on iOS 6.1.2 (DON'T JUST HIT THE ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS BUTTON THOUGH).

Look into iLEX R.A.T. (cydia.myrepospace.com/iLEX) if you really want to go with the "wipe everything and start over" route.

I dont think it has anything to do with the actual jailbreak. Ive been reading different posts and it seems to be a problem that is going on even without jailbreaking... But if I take it to apple they are just going to hand me a refurbed phone running ios 6.1.4. Which means no untethered jailbreak
