You need good 6.X shsh to restore to that. You can check with ifaith if you have any good ones available on cydia. Most likely you don't though so your choices are go to 6.1.3 and have a tethered jailbreak. Or stay on 5.0.1.

If you are getting that error trying to get to 6.1.3 then your hosts file are likely messed up or you have the wrong firmware.
Try it on a different computer if you can and get iTunes to download 6.1.3, don't do it manually.
First I would suggest using ifaith to extract your 5.0.1 shsh from the device itself. That way you can always restore to 5.0.1 if you need to or want your jailbreak back.

Is there any updates regarding this? I haven't been keeping up with jailbreaks but I'm considering updating to ios 6. Currently on 5.1.1 and tinyumbrella lists multiple 6.x firmware.
