Thread: Updating from a jailbroken 5.1.1 to jailbroken 6.1.2

Default Updating from a jailbroken 5.1.1 to jailbroken 6.1.2
EDIT: HELP, THIS IS NOW AN ISSUE. My phone has frozen in (Soft DFU mode), I cannot kick out of it. Please advise, someone.

Yes, I know you guys will probably tell me to read the stickies, but I am very paranoid that I will brick my phone and am asking someone to take the time to create a step by step guide for me.

Alright, I have a jail broken (Edit: Iphone 4) 5.1.1, and I want to arrive at a jail broken (Edit: Iphone 4) 6.x.x

I also have some questions about the process:

    1) Will i preserve all my jailbroken apps and items and such?
    2) How do I avoid having to update to 6.1.3, that does not have a jailbreak atm?

Thank you very much to the person that helps!

I was not sure what that was, but from your About SHSH in your signature. The top of my cydia states SHSH: IOS 5.1.1, 5.1.1r1, and 6.0.1.

    I don't know why i have 6.0.1 because I've never updated past 5.1.1 before.

Read the facts about SHSH in that link in my sig and you will know how you have 6.0.1 shsh
Since you have 6.0.1 SHSH and a iPhone 4 you can go to that firmware if you wish. You will need to use tiny umbrella to save your 6.0.1 shsh to your computer. Then you can use iFaith to make a custom stitched firmware with those shsh and restore to that in itunes.

Alright, I downloaded tiny umbrella, saved shsh blobs to my computer. And I have the ifaith 1.5.5 menu open. How would I create a custom stitched firmware? I assume its the build ipsw, but I'll just make sure. Btw, are there any risks in creating custom stitched firmwares?

Thanks in advance for the walkthrough!

    One* final question:

Will I preserve the data jailbreak and non-jailbreak on my phone?

Backup in iTunes first and that will save all your non-jailbreak related stuff and settings. There are Cydia apps that can backup all your Cydia stuff like pkgbackup or openbackup but they can be troublesome if you backup a tweak that is not 6.X compatible.

Hmm my phone is unresponsive to the stitched firmware. The ifaith logo opened up, and loaded to completion, however it didn't do anything and now my phone can't turn on with itunes begging to update to 6.1.3. Please advise.

Unresponsive how? It still has the Ifaith logo on the screen? Did iTunes give you any kind of error number? You put the phone in pwned dfu first with Ifaith right?

Yeah i ran it with ireb. Its not turning on. Everytime i plug in itunes it detects that it is in recovery mode, but everytime i try to restore to stitched firmware, it gives me a an unknown error (1600).

I cannot use DFU at the moment. It gives me "ifaith has detected an unsupported device"

Should i try factory setting to 6.1.3 and try to downgrade?

1600 error can mean you didn't enter pwned DFU right. You can kick it out of DFU by holding home and power button for 10 seconds then holding power to turn it on.

Try pwned DFU again with ifaith. You can also try getting into pwned DFU with redsnow.

Unsupported device? You definitely have a iPhone 4 and not a 4S right? How many black antenna seperators (the black lines around edge of phone) are there? 3 or 4?
What is the file name of the stock firmware you downloaded for it?

    Definitely a iphone 4 gsm.

It seems that the TSS server wasnt activated at the time i used tiny umbrella due to the skype client being open. That could have done it right?

No. You shouldn't be using the TSS server or tiny umbrella for anything other than saving your shsh to your computer. Once that is done you don't need to use tiny umbrella anymore. It should be closed.
