Considering factory unlock & re-jailbreaking.
Hey guys, I'm currently using an iPhone 4S that is unlocked on iOS 5.1.1 with GEVEY sim. It is also jailbroken on the same iOS.
I've been considering restoring my iPhone, updating it to iOS 6.1.2. Then I would factory unlock it and re-jailbreak it. I would have all my Cydia tweaks and iPhone data backed up. So that would mean I would go from GEVEY unlocked iOS 5.1.1 jailbroken to factory unlocked iOS 6.1.2 jailbroken.
My question is, would this work? And if it does, is it worth the effort/money/time? I just planned to do this for less Springboard and Application crashes since it's on a higher iOS. I really don't care what iOS I'm on, it's just that the crashes can tend to be annoying.

I would highly recommend having it factory unlocked, cheaper then buying Gevey sims and permanent too.

Thank you! But would this process be more of an effort considering that I have to update my iOS, factory unlock, and re-jailbreak? Would it be worth it?

What carrier are you on and we can see what unlock you gonna need for that.

I am on T-Mobile.
Also, if I factory unlock my iPhone instead of GEVEY sim, will the jailbreak be gone? And if I re-jailbreak my iPhone (and update the iOS), will the factory unlock be gone?Last edited by JohnFiasco; 03-16-2013 at 07:38 PM.

Once you factory unlock you will have it forever nothing you do will git rid of that.
As for as ya jailbreak only if ya restore you will lose it. But just a quick 5 minutes and it can be jailbroken again.

What carrier is the phone originally locked to? AT&T?

Then it is very easy and pretty cheap to factory unlock. Would definitely recommend that route. Then you only have to worry about updates/restores for jailbreaking and not have to mess with basebands and Gevey sims.

So how exactly do I factory unlock this iPhone? I called T-Mobile before and they provided me with a website that sends me a code that would unlock my phone. Is this legit? What are some websites you guys prefer for factory unlocks?

One of the moderators here does it on his site. Very easy, less than $15 and done within 24hrs. No codes or anything like that needed. You just provide him your IMEI and what model iPhone you have and he does the rest. iTunes will unlock it for you once it is done.

I just found out that my iPhone 4S was originally a Verizon or Sprint carrier.
Do you guys have any other sites?

Sprint cannot be done right now. And Verizon can be pretty expensive and even then the factory unlock for it is international only so it won't help you for using it with Tmobile. Gevey sim may be your only choice for that unfortunately.
