Thread: Cant open settings
11-11-2012, 05:37 PM #1Cant open settings
Hello, new to this forum...
I have recently purchased a jail broken iPhone 4 from a friend.
It does not let me add new contacts or modify mail settings, every time I select the option it pops up with a black screen for approx 1second then nothing happens... What can the problem be and how can I fix this? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to MMi,
Can you open up Cydia and look on the top of the page and see if any SHSH Blobs were saved? If it has them you can do a fresh restore to 5.1.1 and re-jailbreak. It should cure any and all issues since it sounds like there is something corrupted in the OS.
If you try to restore in iTunes without Blobs you will be force to move up to 6.0.1 as Apple is not signing any other firmware. It also means that the only jailbreak at OS 6.0.1 is tethered.
You will need to download a couple things to do it.
stock 5.1.1 firmware.

Sounds like you don't have all blobs, so a restore and re-jailbreak must have been done. What firmware are you on now?

Sorry I meant 5.1.1

Tell me more about settings, is the icon missing or does it crash when you try to open it, can you access it from the Spotlight Search?
Odd that your on 5.1.1 but have no blobs saved even if the previous owner restored it.

No idea, when I click it.. Just flashes black and goes back to the home screen

Limits possibilities not having blobs for 5.1.1.
To determine if it is a software or hardware issue a restore is necessary...but a restore is going to move you up to 6.0.1 which there is no untethered jailbreak for as I mentioned.
Is this an issue that just started or is it the way you received the phone? If it just started and you have installed something from Cydia, I would suggest at least trying to delete it/them.

I'm slightly confused' is there anything I can do or just wait for 6.0

You can restore in iTunes to 6.0.1 to see if that cures your issue and then wait like the rest of us for a jailbreak.

When's the release date

No one knows for sure yet.

Maybe your friend can help you. If they have the blobs, or if they can log into cydia with their account, you might be able to get the blobs then.
