Iphone 3gs - upgraded to IOS6 now cannot activate or see sim...CASH PAID FOR SOLUTION
OK, I am desperate now :-(
I purchased a second hand Iphone 3gs today and downloaded Itunes. Once connected, it said I could upgrade to IOS 6, so I did (I did not know problems would follow!)
Now, I cannot activate the Iphone with my SIM. Itunes does not recognize that a sim is even installed.
What have I done so far?
1) Tried the phone with EVERY sim possible (tmobile, 3, o2, vodafone, orange)
2) Tried redsn0w dev to try and change the ipad base thingy whatsit (get your device does not support untethered options)
3) Followed all forum messages. I cannot downgrade on itunes, I cannot downgrade on redsn0w.
I have none of the files you need BRBRs? Burbs? ? N00b sorry, to automatically go back to my previous version, or even 5.1.1.
Any more info needed, let me know. I am an android man, Iphone amateur.
IF SOMEONE PROVIDES ME A SOLUTION THAT RESULTS IN MY PHONE WORKING AGAIN, I WILL PAY CASH £$ into the bank account/paypal account of the provider. If more than one person helps, it will be split pro rata. I will take a solution at a time, so if the first one works, that wins. First come, first served. I will compensate based on how successful the solution is. I am desperate.

Wow..that sucks... Do u know what baseband u have? I'm assuming it's iPad baseband if it was JB n unlocked before..best bet is to try n downgrade to a stable unlock able baseband..
No need for money....not for me anyway...
I'm not even sure iOS 6 will work with ultrasn0w yet...
I don't unlock..I'm on AT&T... iOS 6 JB isn't even stable enough to use really..I did it for a day n went back to 5.1.1.. If you can download n run TinyUmbrella n plug phone in n run it to see if Cydia has blobs for that phone.. Then u can use them to create stitched custom IPSW of 5.1.1 with redsn0w 0.9.14b2 n restore to it..
At least 5.1.1 is untethered JB n u can install ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock...but u really should try the baseband downgrade if it has iPad baseband..
Or if TinyUmbrella doesn't get u blobs for 5.1.1, I think u can still go back to 4.1... Need to know what baseband u have first..let us know more details on phone..tganksLast edited by xboxbml; 09-28-2012 at 04:29 PM.

It sucks big time :-(
The place I purchased it from never said anything to me about not upgrading etc, I thought it was all good. My current situation is below. I have tried to put 5.1.1 on, but I cannot do so (don't have the files you need for that version saved as I never knew there would be a problem)

Here's a how to on downgrading to more stable baseband.. http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-dow...d-working-gps/
You should also run TinyUmbrella like I said before to try n fetch blobs from Cydia... On TinyUmbrella advanced tab u can request shsh blobs from Cydia.. I'm pretty sure since u have iPad baseband Cydia has some blobs saved for that phone..
At worst I think u can search the Internet n download iOS 4.1 and use redsn0w 0.9.14b2 to create custom no baseband IPSW of 4.1 n restore to that...Last edited by xboxbml; 09-29-2012 at 07:46 PM.

Hi there. I'm a noob to iPhone. I was given a 3GS, that I know was Jailbroken with Cydia. It was then plugged in to iTunes which tried to update the IOS. I have have exactly the same symptoms as marcyerrell described in your first post where the phone will not activate and itunes says there is no sim card installed.
What I don't know is what baseband and IOS is on the phone at the moment. How can I find this out, like marcyerrell managed to do and provide the info list above? Then I can proceed with trying to do a fix.
Any help greatly appreciated.Last edited by Jumpship; 11-16-2012 at 02:01 AM.

try to use Redsnow 09.15b3.
1. downgrade your iphone ipad baseband to 05.13.04,
2. and then install ultrasn0w fixer
3. after finish installing ultrasn0w fixer, search for ultrasn0w on cydia.
4. remove your simcard. and turn off your 3G
5. reboot and boot tethered again if you are on ios 6.0.1
6. put back again your simcard.. after a few second u can see your signal bar..

Worked!
Hi tehtarik123
This worked! So many many thanks for replying to my post, I am very grateful.
My only issue now is that I have to boot whilst thethered to Redsn0w.
Is there a way yet of booting unthethered on IOS 6.0 with the newer Boot Rom?
Cheers, Paul
