Thread: Cannot upgrade to 5.1.1
05-31-2012, 09:08 PM #1Cannot upgrade to 5.1.1
Hello, whenever I try to update to 5.1.1 with iTunes i get an error, code 21 or 22 saying it can't be done.
I have tried to restore to factory settings aswell, it don't work either. What should I do? I got what it says in my signature

Found a fix here: http://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index....rors#Below_100
Might want to give those a try

I'm not sure now which error code it was but i'm almost certain it was error code 21. In any case I have to re-download the update every time I attempt to upgrade which is a pain in the ***, because of the 768 mb file I need to download everytime. Can someone just give me the link to apple's website to download the update so I can attach it to the update instead with shift key every time I try to update my phone?
Anyway, back to subject, it says something about putting my device into DFU mode, how I do that? I get the Apple logo on my phone then it just disconnects me from iTunes saying that I have to return it to manufacture for restore, and goes black dead, I however somehow got it to my old 4.1 again after this, I don't know how but I just tried to update it again and again until it failed then it was normal 4.1 JB again.
Instructions please how to update to 5.1.1 from 4.1 with that DFU mode it says on the error code?
On second note: Will it work if I remove the jailbreak or the Cydia or whatever I have on 4.1 and then try to update it? Or is it even possible to remove a jailbreak from a jailbroken phone or remove Cydia and that "Pwnagetool" or "redsn0w" I have limera1n.
If you click limera1n, a window pops up it says Uninstall limera1n, what does that do? (on phone)

DFU Mode - Hold Power button for 5 seconds
Hold Power button + Home Button for 10 seconds
Release Power button BUT keep holding home button for 15 seconds
and itunes should say
"iphone in Recovery Mode."
Other way is just to click restore agree to all of the terms and re-download iOS 5.1.1 then jaiklbreak using Absinthe.

You might be able to still sync if iTunes detects it, if not you might be outif luck

If iTunes can't start syncing in the current state.
You can restore from a backup too if you had already synced before

I don't understand a thing what you are saying.
Can someone just give me a step-to-step tutorial on how to update my phone to 5.1.1 , after that I think i can manage to jailbreak it alone.
A step-to-step where I can save all my files, etc. please.

Step 1. Beckup your phone in Itunes, meaning connect the phone to Itunes, right click on device and click back up.
Step 2. Download IOS 5.1.1. build 9B208 to your desktop
Step 3. Download Absinthe 2.0.4. also on your desktop
Step 4. Turn of you phone
Step 5. Connect it to Itunes
Step 6. Put the phone into DFU mode (google search will do)
Step 7. hold shift on your PC keyboard and click restore in Itunes, Window will pop up. Point to the downloaded IOS 5.1.1
Step 8. After restore, open Absinthe 2.0.4. When you open it, it will start extracting. When finished, you will get new Absinthe folder. Open it and there you will find new Absinthe. exe file. Run it. New window opens, click on jailbrake and relax.
Step 9. After JB go to Itunes, right click to your device and click restore from back up.
An that is all, hope it was clear enough.

Shouldn't I first update to iOS 5.1.1 , then go to Itunes , right click on my device, click restore from back up, then open Absinthe 2.0.4 after that and Jailbreak?
Also step 2. can someone point a link to me where I can download IoS 5.1.1 to desktop
