Thread: Restore fails

    Default Restore fails
I have an Ipod touch 2g MC model. I recently updated to 4.2.1 and had it jailbroken. Everything was going smoothly til it crashed.

I tried to restore using iTunes using the 4.2.1 firmware from the official server, I also tried using one from another mirror (redmondpie, i think). Both of them din't push through with the restoring. It gets stuck at the "restoring iPod software" message in iTunes. It gives other errors like Unknown error 2, 9 and 14.

I also tried using snowbreeze to create a custom IPSW, but when restoring from iTunes, it still gets stuck.

I tried other methods like using greenpois0n. All goes smoothly but GP fails and it says "Unable to mount filesystem... Giving up".

redsn0w wont work on the MC model. Irecovery cant identify the ipod when using a windows machine.

I'm using both windows and mac laptops to recover but both fail.
I installed and reinstalled Itunes on the Mac. Itunes is fresh on the pc.

Going to Apple is out of the question. The ipod wasnt bought here and is out of warranty.

    I appreciate your help!

Those type of errors may mean something is wrong with the hardware on the device. Maybe the battery or USB connection.

Silly me. A few minutes after posting my problem, it got fixed. You were right. The USB connection was the key. But it never worked for the mac. I was on the Pc when it worked.

I changed the USB cable and used iReb to enter PWND DFU state. Then restored using itunes.

    Many thanks!
