4s jailbroken software update 5.01 and backup SHSH questions

I am all new to the iPhone and the jailbreaking part of it too.

I did jailbreak my 4s that is running 5.0.
I was told not to update to 5.01 because the possibility of a way to unlock it. (Which I don't care about right now but would like it in case of selling it in a couple years) I highly doubt that I will change carriers but never know.

Any other reasons why I should or should not update NOW?
How do I go about updating if I should? Any way to save what I have on my phone so it re-installs it afterwords? Also I just don't want to brick it (if thats possible) trying to do an update on a jailbroken phone the wrong way.

From what I have read in the forum I should be able to save the SHSH blobs. I guess there is nothing that can be done with it right now but I guess in case it can be used later?

What I can't find out is a good way that shows how to backup the SHSH blobs.
