Teathered or unteathered

I did not jailbreak my current iphone. I have jailbroke phones but not this current one.
I would like to know.

1.how to tell if it's a teathered or unteahered jailbreak.
2.if I can jailbreak to 5.01 with a 06.15.00 base band.

I'm not that experienced at this.

If you can turn the phone off and back on and cydia still works then it is untethered.

Baseband has nothing to do with jailbreaking, it is Important for unlocking

yes that much I know. but I would like to know that before I Turn it off. I haven't turned it off since April and would like to do so.

Sorry yes I guess i should've asked if jailbreaking with 5.01, with that baseband would it effect my ability to unlock it again to tmobile.

OS is 4.3.1

I would guess you are untethered then on 4.3.1. If you arent all it takes is redsnow to boot tethered if it doesnt boot up.

so there is really no way to know?
how about updating to 5.01 and rejailbreaking and unlocking to tmobile, would that be ok?

Ya, that is easy enough. Just use pwnage tool or redsnow (latest versions) to make a custom 5.0.1 and restore to that in itunes. Do not restore to a regular 5.0.1 as that will mess with your baseband.

OK don't update. Just create the 5.01 and restore to that. Is there a link for the redsnow in the forum?

redsnow 0.9.10b3 is the latest version. Choose extras then the custom firmware option. After making the custom firmware make sure to use redsnow to enter pwned DFU (under extras too) before restoring to the custom firmware.

Thank you. I did reboot and it came back up but i still think i need to update to 5.01 because i think some of the apps i updated are buggy with the old 4.3
