4.1->5.0.1-4.1 upgrade/downgrade question

So I have all my SHSH blobs up to firmware 5.0.1 and right now I'm still on 4.1. What I wanted to know is can I upgrade to 5.0.1 without an AP ticket and downgrade to 4.1 and pretty much go back and forth? Or are AP tickets only for 5.0.1 to 5.0 and back to 5.0.1?

iPhone 4 - 4.1 firmware - AT&T - been saving all SHSH blobs with TinyUmbrella once a week. I might have missed a few firmwares but I know for sure I have 5.0.1, 4.2.1, and 4.1.

I have a Mac and no access to a windows PC so iFaith isn't really an option despite the fact that I tried to run it natively with Wine.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can go to any 4.x FW for which u have shsh blobs...u can go up to 5.0.1 now as latest and being signed by apple...u can't go to 5.0 even with blobs saved...apple not signing 5.0 anymore...at this time I don't believe it is possible to go from current 5.x version to previous 5.x ver...

You need the APticket for 5.0 but yes as long as you have the shsh (and APticket for 5.x) blobs for whatever version you want to install. You can go to whatever version you want be it 5.0.1, 5.0, or 4.1 as long as you have required blobs/APticket.

So yes, as far as I know u can bounce back n forth between any 4.x for which u have blobs and the currently being signed by apple FW..I've done it a couple times on my 3GS...I wAs on 4.2.1 on this. I go it as replacement. Came with 4.2.1 still on it as I got it when 4.3.2 was out..I JB it right away..had for quite a while then messed it up a bit n had to restore on 4.3.3. But while I was on 4.2.1 and working ifaith had come out so I dumped blobs for 4.2.1 off phone. Made signed 4.2.1 IPSW. So when I messed up phone and tried to restore to that FW, it wouldn't work so had to go to 4.3.3. Saved blobs for 4.3.3 and JB untethered w redsn0w. When 5.0 came out I loaded that preserving 4.3.3 BB. Didn't like it much. SBS, lockinfo and notification center all weren't playing nice yet.. Went back down to 4.3.3 until 5.0.1 came out. Updated to that and sbs preserving 4.3.3 BB And LI had been updated by then..worked ok(saved blobs also). I noticed that 5.0.1 is a memory n storage hog as well as it was eating battery a bit quicker than even 4.3.3. iTunes was also showing storage space bouncing Round between other free photos..wAs pissing me off. Was going to go back to 4.3.3 again but decided to make a new IPSW with the latest ifaith and that one worked so I am back on 4.2.1 where I always wanted to be in the first place..4.2.1 is best on 3GS I always say.. Ur on ip4 do maybe u don't have these issues..I also got rid of iTunes 10.5.2 cuz on every sync it would get stuck at syncing photos for along time...went back down to 10.3.1...no more problems!. Staying put here!..

A3gowner...u try that yet?...as far as I know no one has found a way to actually make that happen...even with apticket and blobs....am I wrong on that?....

so i need to go to 5.0.1 right now and get the AP ticket even though I have the blob which means I can then go between any of the 4.x firmwares and 5.0.1 but I can't UPGRADE to 5.0.1 without the AP ticket? or can I go directly to 5.0.1 without the AP ticket and back and forth between 5.0.1 and 4.1 if I want or do I need the AP ticket to initially get TO 5.0.1 because if I do then I can't because I've never gone to it.

So i have to regular upgrade to 5.0.1 without jailbreaking and then get the AP ticket or get the AP ticket after I jailbroke it?

Ok you can go to 5.0.1 now without an APticket because apple is still signing it. The APticket and shsh blobs are used when apple not signing the firmware anymore, like 4.2.1. So as long as apple signing 5.0.1 you can update to it with no special instructions. When they quit signing 5.0.1 you would use your blobs and APticket stitched to a custom firmware (or use TSS when it gets updated for it).

Uhh. Simple stuff gets complicated sometimes ..
Here:
1) As of now you don't need shsh or AP Ticket to go to 5.0.1. Reason : apple still signs it.
2)For 3GS u don't need shsh blobs to go to 4.1 . Reason : apple signs 4.1 for 3GS. BUT it's safe to keep shsh.


I would advice this :

1) download latest tinyumbrella.
2) go to advanced. Check fetch shsh from Cydia .
Let it download shsh from Cydia servers.
3) Now uncheck it. Again click save shsh. It download apticket and shsh for 5.0.1 ..
4) download redsn0w 0.9.10b3 . Verify the 5.0.1 . If it says apticket present. U r fine.



Regarding APtickets : from iOS 5 , apple introduced apticket check. So whenever u wanna go from any firmware to unsigned firmware,( firmwares which are Not current ) you need apticket.


Edit : to update to iOS 5.0.1 follow this:

1) download iOS 5,0,1 ipsw
2) Shift restore in iTunes.
3) jb using redsn0w 0.9.10b3.

Latest one saves . I edited the post added how to update .

After saving the5.0.1 blobs verify them using redsn0w to make sure apticket is present.

No need to use ifaith because TU saves them now. To be safe do like I did and use both ifaith and TU.

got it. last question and probably a dumb one, despite the fact that tinyumbrella now saves AP tickets, that still requires that i upgrade to 5.0.1 first to actually get the AP ticket or can i sit here on 4.1 and use tinyumbrella to save the 5.0.1 AP ticket?

from what i've read the AP ticket is a snapshot of the device state on that firmware and it's required to upgrade back to that firmware so i'm 99% sure that i actually have to upgrade to 5.0.1 first before saving the AP ticket.

ok so redsn0w shows 1 for 5.0.1 where it says "saved full blob for" and it shows a number. my girlfriend has an iphone 4 as well that i just jailbroke for her a few days ago with redsn0w so how do i know if this full blob is hers or mine since i just saved mine right now with tinyumbrella?

i have to upgrade first to 5.0.1 to get my full blob so that must be hers then right?

i just updated it to 5.0.1 through the shift + restore now i'm restoring my apps and photos and all that stuff in itunes and then i'm going to jailbreak it and save my AP ticket since I already have the blob. redsn0w didn't show the blob for my ECID only for my girlfriend's so it must have her AP ticket and ECID/shsh blob then and not mine obviously since I wasn't on 5.0.1 yet

Ifaith saves apticket , TU saves blobs. Ifaith can create signed ipsw from both aptickets and saved blob from TU, so no need to worry if you have either one.

i just did the TU procedure a couple times and still redsn0w doesn't show anything for my ECID. i think i can borrow a windows laptop and use ifaith on that. where do the files store on the computer so i can move them to mine in case i don't have access to that laptop when i need it?

When you plug in your bootable iphone ( not recovery nor dfu mode ) TU will recognize your iphone device name will be displayed on the left pane, highlight it and at the bottom of your TU , you should see your ECID

hmm...tried to re-update to 5.0.1 while already on 5.0.1 and it failed in itunes and said my device isn't eligible for the requested build. i'm already on 5.0.1 and i'm going to borrow a laptop and use ifaith to save my AP ticket but does that mean that apple just stopped signing that firmware?

Ifaith saves apticket , TU saves blobs. Ifaith can create signed ipsw from both aptickets and saved blob from TU, so no need to worry if you have either one.

No that wouldn't be the case if TU didn't save APtickets 5.x can't reuse shsh blobs due to a nonce rule being implemented. The only way to restore to 5.0+ is to use an APticket, hence why you need to either use TU and the "blobs"(APticket) it saves or use ifaith with the "blobs"(APticket) it saved to make custom firmware. So what I'm getting at is since you can use TU "blobs" (APticket) to build a custom ipsw with ifaith it has to use the APticket method since shsh has been "defeated". I believe cydia saves APtickets for you now too.

redsn0w keeps crashing at "uploading ramdisk" and despite my attempts to enter DFU mode with ifaith on a windows laptop with the newest version of itunes it keeps saying failed to enter DFU mode.

any suggestions?

edit: when i simply plug my phone into itunes and click restore without shift + restore or any of that it says my device isn't eligible for the requested build. does that mean they stopped signing 5.0.1? i'm on it and my SHSH blobs are saved. now i just need to get into DFU mode successfully to have ifaith save my AP ticket and i should be good to go.

if anyone can help me solve this i'll find a way to pay you back. i appreciate the rest of the responses here but they don't seem to be working. either that or i'm just not comprehending the wording of it. i don't see anything in the log of tinyumbrella with references to ap tickets. when i open redsn0w i don't see anything related to ap tickets either.

ok new update. some of my apps were syncing when i initially did the 5.0.1 update but they stopped so i had a bunch of apps with progress bars but nothing in them. i went into itunes and deselected sync apps so it cleared all those out then i went back into DFU mode with redsn0w and tried to jailbreak again and it looks like it is working now.

just some info in case someone else encounters this problem too. i'll let you guys know what happens when i try ifaith again to see if maybe that had something to do with it.
