as the title says, I admit Im not a rocket scientist.
I need to ask someone to hold my hand through this process, please, cuz I guarantee I can screw-up anything in a heart-beat.
I have an iPhone 4 currently running 4.0.1
I used "Jailbreakmenow" quite some time ago to jailbreak it.
I have Cydia and ********** loaded.
Cydia DOES have my ShSh on file.
Computer OS is Windows 7 Enterprise
First question: What do I do to keep the jailbroken updates I already have, so that I dont have to go find them and re-install them after I jailbreak to 5.0.1??
Second Question: After I preserve my apps.....How do I ugrade my jailbreakto whatever untethered version is most current?
I know this is all simple to yall. and Im embarrassed to have to ask for the help. But I havent faound instructions that I can understand.
I thought I was pretty clear on what I needed and why I needed it.
That being a dumbed-down babystep on how to preserve the apps I've found installed via Cydia, etc, and then how to upgrade to the most recent untethered jailbreak.
Actually it shows Cydia and ********.. Here usually the censored stuff is piracy related stuff..
Backing up apps and tweaks is not recommended .
Regarding updating follow this AS IS :
1) download 5.0.1 for ur device.
2) download redsn0w 0.9.10b3.
3) open redsn0w. Create custom firmware using it.
4) put phone in pwned dfu state.
5) shift restore in iTunes .
If you don't wanna preserve your baseband and don't need unlock
1) shift restore to iOS 5.0.1
2) jb using the redsn0w u downloaded.
I didnt realize ******* was piracy. For that, I appologize.
But I apparently did a poor job of adequately describing my lack of technical aptitude.

I dont know how to create custome firmware
I dont know what pwned dfu is.
I dont know what preserving baseband is.
Do I understand that I simply upgrade to 5.0.1 via itunesand then jb using redsnow?
