how can I get 3GS on 5.0.1 to boot untethered with new redsn0w
I recently updated my 3GS (which is on BB 6.15.00, updated in error - long story) new bootrom, to iOS 5.0.1 using custom firmware I created through Sn0wbreeze. Up til now I've had to boot tethered using redsn0w, but I now learn that untethered is available for 5.0.1. Yay.
I don't need to jailbreak my phone, I just have to mess about now with custom FWs etc, as hubby unlocked my phone here in Egypt, thinking he was helping, and the BB was updated to the iPad one. I'm sick of having to guard my phone's battery and reinstall the BB when I need to reset/battery goes flat due to the tethered thang.
My question is how to now get the untethered boot? I've got the new redsn0w version0.9.10b3, and I've created blobs for the current FW using iFaith, but I'm hesitant to go further without a map. Where do I go from here?
Any help gratefully received. I'm not savvy with the whole process, all that I know I learned from here Thanks guys.
Ah, my old friend xtacy! Thanks again for your wisdom. One (fantastically stupid) question, though: how do i do that?? I'm in Cydia now, and a search for Corona brings up nothing whatsoever. I'm seriously missing something here... also, once I do find & install Corona, is that it? I will be able to recharge a flat iPhone with no need to reboot/reinstall BB using redsn0w? Thanks, thanks, thanks mate
Do this instead :
1) download redsn0w 0.9.10b3
2) download 5.0.1 ipswich
3) Make a new custom firmware ipsw using redsn0w .
4) put your phone in pwned dfu state.
5) shift restore in iTunes
6) install ultrasn0w
7) enjoy iOS 5
Awesome. Okay, got redsn0w, and I still have my original stock FW 5.0.1 from iClarified, can I use that again? I still have the original custom FW I created for the initial update, but it was of course created with an older version of redsn0w, so I gather that's why I need to recreate it? Lastly, when you say 6) install ultrasn0w, do you mean use this program for something, or is this something i need to actually install on the phone? Sorry for my usual nutty questions, just don't want to end up with the iTunes recovery screen of death thanks mate!
