Need help re- jailbreaking/unlocking.. iP3G

Hi all!

I'm totally confused...
I know that I want to use redsn0w & Cydia and get ********** on the phone, but I'm really baffled as to what I should do and how to get to the final stage.

Here's what I've got:
iPhone 3G - I'm 99% certain. lol

phone had to be unlocked, as it was sold by cellphone company 1, but is to be used by cellphone company 2.
phone had to be jailbroken.

Almost all apps, including Cydia are now crashing, every time I try to open them.
So I know I have to RE Jailbreak & RE Unlock.

I've done the regular backup using iTunes. Took forever to backup!

I'm either going to use XP or Win 7 to jailbreak/unlock

iP is jailbroken with an iOS version 3.0.1
Modem Firmware is 04.26.08

I'm pretty sure I'm backed up well enough to not care what happens to the info on the phone.

I'm confused as to what steps to take, and which iOS and such to install.

I don't know which iOS to install. Am I looking to update my current iOS to a newer iOS first? To which iOS should I update? Is that iOS jailbreakable?
Or do I just choose a random iOS to install???
What version of redsn0w do I download?

Redsn0w
Cydia
**********..?

When do I re-Unlock??? Or do I even have to re-unlock??

Do I need to have iTunes installed on the computer that's doing the jailbreaking in order to install RedSnow

you can just restore or go to 3.1.3.
or I´d tell you to upgrade to 4.2.1 with redsnow, cant remember wich version. and unlock with ultrasnow

BUT you will have to update your baseband. this means you will loose your GPS and probably the possibility of sending/recieving phone calls/messages. Its up to you.
So if you dont mind a little better operative system just stick to 3.0.3 and youll be ok.

first of all, I've had the phone for like 5 yrs now, and never stole a program, so if you can't help, don't waste both our times please

I need more info please.
I don't care what OS is on the phone.
I'd like to be able to install non-Apple approved programs that do make our lives easier.
This phone will not be used as a GPS. I have a GPS that I use. I do want to be able to send out texts and make phone calls still though.

How would I go back from 3.0.7 to 3.1.x? That's an upgrade, not a downgrade.

When I am trying to jailbreak, do I install any jailbroken iOS even if it's 4.x on this phone? And then Unlock it??
Or do I first have to update the phone to a non-jailbroken iOS and then jailbreak it?

Also, nobody mentioned tethered, untethered... I don't understand this, and I assume some people have a preference.. Why?

if it's not stealing then what do u wanna get on the phone after installing Cydia.

Well you have to care about what IOS you have. We are talking about IOSs

and yes you will have to jailbreak. The only way to get apps, cool apps for free.
restore 3.1.3 - jailbreak with redsnow 0.9.4
after JB and cydia installed install appsync 3+ (this will allow u to install free and cracked apps from appcrackr, where all itunes apps are for free, syncing with iTunes)

search in google its plenty of tutorials.

if you dont care about gps or telephony just upgrade to 4.2.1, the most stable and fast IOS I found when i had a 3G too. Again search in google you will find how to do it right.

I found on Google, that iOS 4+ is much slower on iPhone 3G, because it is not intended for that phone.



I managed to get it Jailbroken and Unlocked, but then iTunes instead of just syncing my contacts, it decided to restore the phone back to its older version which I did not want! OMFG!! I can't stand Apple products and the time they consume! It's too bad they won't just make life easy!!

Actually seems like the iOS stayed as the updated iOS, but backup data was preserved! -minus the previously installed apps from AppStore

iTunes can only restore your old ¨way, lets say, of the phone, calendars, contacts, preferences, but it cant never restore your IOS, when you do restore.

and yes, this phones been giving me hard times too many times. Some day ill just switch to Android and Samsung. enought of this ****
