I have a 3GS, new bootrom, bb 6.15 that I updated from Ios 4.1 to ios 5.0.1.
Baseband 6.15 was running fine on Ios 4.1 (meaning no GPS but triangulation was working)
Then I updated to Ios 5.0.1
So long as I leave location service off or do not use an app that depends on LS, then the network signal is fine.
If however, I launch any app (maps, google, etc) that depends on location service and it is on, then the network signal will drop off after about 20 sec, then come on again and cycle on and off until I close the app.
Can anyone help with what might be causing this (or better yet help to correct)?
My fallback is to downgrade back to Ios 4.1 (location services works fine at 4.1), but I'd prefer to stay at 5.0.1 if possible.
Used Redsnow (mac) 9.10b2 to create custom firmware preserving 6.15 baseband and including cydia. Restored, then activated through i-tunes w/att sim. Installed ultrasnow 1.2.5
Everything functions normally until launching an app that needs location services.
Can you get access to a windows pc? If so build the ipsw from Sn0wbreeze then untether with corona in Cydia, I had the same issue & found that the issue is RedSn0w custom ipsw build. Since I built with sn0w, no location services issues. Hope this helps.
I preserved the 6.15 baseband, What I realised was that I'd never had the issue until I built with Redsn0w, it was only then that it happened (I'd used Redsn0w on 4.1 to get the ipad baseband). I see your on a mac, PwnageTool should do the same (Sn0wbreeze is just pwnagetool ported from mac to windows). I'm not sure if you'll still get the same issue with it as they are both released by The Dev Team, so it may have the same issue, but whereas sn0wbreeze is ih8sn0w, it works.... Sn0wbreeze only has a tethered option (He's not updated it till he can fix the ibooks issue that the jailbreak on ios5 has), however once you load it up, you can go into cydia & install Corona to make the jailbreak untethered.
