*** Please Help Upgrading JB 3GS 3.1.3 ***

Greetings,

I recently used jailbreakme on a 3GS running fw 3.1.3 with a bb of 05.12.01. I need to upgrade to 4.x or higher to install and upgrade a couple of apps.

I do have a local copy of SHSH ids that I generated about a year ago. Cydia reports ids for 4.1, 4.2.1r1, 4.3, and 5.0.1.

Could a kind soul instruct me on which fw I should upgrade to; the needed tools; and the upgrade steps? I am running windows 7 and also have vmware image of Leopard.

Please provided the link, if this has already been discussed or covered in a tutorial.

Make a custom firmware using the latest version of sn0wbreeze in baseband preservation mode and update to 5.0.1 using that ipsw. Also put phone in pwned DFu mode before restoring.
