Is my 3gs bricked?

I jailbroke it with Redsn0w and when attempting to unlock it following this link it only restarts to the apple logo or stays in recovery mode.

The step which broke it was replacing the CommCenterClassic file. Once i did that (wasn't able to set permissions) i made it no further.

Is there any hope for fixing it

When did you get this phone?
If it was anytime since August 2011 or later , your phone is bricked. Apple changed some hardware that completely destroys the baseband when you try downgrading & unlocking.

I ended up risking it and successfully restoring through iTunes by letting the app download new content for the restore (versus shift-click and pointing it to an IPSW file). I was hesitant that this may mess things up as it was already jailbroken, but in the end it worked.
