Upgrading iPhone 3GS BB 06.15.00 to iOS 5

I Have an iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 (Old Bootrom) BaseBand 06.15.00.
Am I able to upgrade it to iOS 5?

You can restore to custom firmware of 5.0 created by Snowbreeze 2.8b11

Is there any chance ill have an iOS 5 with untethered jailbreak ?
Cuz I heard MB 3GS has an untethered already.

You don't need tutorial, Snowbreeze is self explanatory. If you have the official sim, then go expert mode and uncheck activate iphone, otherwise select it to hactivate.
Once you have finished building it, use the tool to put iphone into pwned dfu and restore to this cfw of 5.0 and unlock with Ultrasn0w from cydia.

Hi iYeow, you've actually helped me a few months ago with rescuing my iPhone when hubby jailbroke it here in Egypt (Repair a jailbroken iPh 3G stuck in recovery, no backups available, no SHSH backupps).

I'm now trying to upgrade my 3GS from iOS 4.1 to custom firmware 5.0 created with sn0wbreeze 2.8b11, but t'ain't working! When I try to shift+restore in iTunes, I get error 3194, and when I try shift+update, I get error message 3002 (which would seem to make sense, since the phone's never been on iO5). It doesn't make a difference if my phone is in recovery mode or not when I try this. The phone is a new bootrom, now on BB 6.15.00. I have the official SIM, and don't want to jailbreak it right now, as I don't use it as a phone here in Egypt. Apparently it's not jailbroken now, but has been in the past, of course - hence these issues (dammit).

Do I need to do something special to the hosts file? Any help would be gratefully received, and please let me know if you think I should start a new thread instead. Thanks a million. Mel
