Strange Problem With iPhone 3gs Jailbreak

I have an iPhone 4 but my brother is still using a 3gs. I used sn0wbreeze 2.8b11 to jailbreak my iPhone 4 but it won't work on his 3gs. I create the custom ispw using sn0wbreeze and then use iTunes to flash it to his 3gs using the shift+restore method we are all familiar with and everything seems to work just like it is supposed to until the very end. It stops on the apple logo with the progress bar almost all the way to the end and goes no further.

I was able to jailbreak the 3gs using redsn0w 9.9b8 but when I try to use redsn0w to boot tethered it fails with the message "Unrecognized Build" and boots up untethered and unjailbroken The Cydia icon is present but does not work. I tried to use iBooty to boot but it also does not work. iBooty shows everything like it is supposed to but the LCD and backlight both remain off.

If someone could help I would be greatly appreciative.

Each time you run redsn0w, you need to select 5.0 ipsw to do a just boot.

Select 5.0 instead of the 5.0.1 I put on the 3GS? I'll try that when my brother gets off work and post my results. Thatnk you very much.
