Default iPod touch 4 restore issues

im not a newbie, just dont know about 5.0 much because my phone doesnt even run it because i dont want it yet

but anyways, my ipod is on 5.0.1, and im trying to get rid of the jailbreak so that my girlfriend can have it back, she has issues with letting the ipod die all the time

so i am trying to restore the ipod, and even trying to do a fresh restore, itunes will not do it.... it wont do iFaiths way either..... and redsn0w wont even do a tethered boot, keeps saying that the exploit failed

    can someone help me out?

EDIT: i have also gotten and array of restore errors:
    1600, 1601, 1602, 1604, 1609, 1613, 1614

16xx errors are usually associated with dfu mode. Put it in pwned dfu with redsnow and restore a stock ipsw. That should clear things up.

Are you running any type of firewall software on your pc? If so disable it and try again. Otherwise you can try on another computer. Good luck.

Glad it worked out for you. Now just clean up your host file so you don't have to use someone else's computer any more. If you need help with that, we can walk you through it.

Ehh, you can go ahead and tell me. I really just need to know where hosts is because I forgot, but clarification is always nice with an important document.

    It bee located here:

    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

System root will be c for you more than likely. You will have to go into control panel to folder options, there will be a view tab you have to select show hidden files and the one about protected os files (not sure exactly what it's called) and apply. Now the start menu all programs, then accessories, right click on note pad, select run as administrator, enter password or what ever it has you do, then file\open, navigate to above location. You are now editing your hosts file be careful you can mess it up pretty quick. I'd copy a back up to your documents folder of the original just incase something does go wrong.

ok, now that i read it, nothing just made me re-assure myself of what to remove from the hosts file.... but i will figure it out....

Additionally i have not done this one in years, so here is my hosts file and what it has:
    # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
    #
    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
    #
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    #
    127.0.0.1 iphonesubmissions.apple.com

It looks good you can put a # I front of the very last line that reads
    127.0.0.1 iPhone.....
    So it'll look like this
    #127.0.0.1 iPhone...

Reboot your computer and you should be good to go.
