Guide:iBooks 1.5 fix on tethered jailbreak
I followed iGurus tutorial but made some small changes. Make sure you don't have iBooks fix from Cydia installed from previous iBooks fix.
Prerequisite: iFile
Download iBooks from appstore, but do not open.
1. Open iFile
2. Go to /var/mobile/Applications/
3. Find the iBooks folder
4. Cut iBooks.app and paste it in /Applications
5. Select iBooks.app press Copy/Link
6. Go back to /var/mobile/Applications/ select Create Link instead of paste to create a symbolic link
6(a) Find info.plist in iBooks.app and change CFBundleShortVersionString to 1.3 and CFBundleIdentifier to com.apple.iBooksFix
6(b)Replace icons in iBooks.app (in var/stash/Applications) with these icons to get the rounded corners back.
bookicons.zip
Goto var/mobile/Library/Caches and delete com.apple.IconsCache
7. Respring your device.
8. Enjoy using iBooksLast edited by MaxxUS; 12-13-2011 at 10:42 PM. Reason: Fixed white icon problem..

Thanks for getting my iBooks working again; however, I can not get my icon to show up even after using your provided files. Just shows a white icon. Any ideas?

I had the same problem for a bit until I realized I had the iBooksfix from Cydia still installed. I uninstalled it, which made the icon disappear alltogehter, went into the applicationsfolder and deleted the ibooks.app and started over again with successful results.
Did you ever have the cydia ibooksfix installed?

I did, but I removed it before I started this process.
I might try it again though."Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower."

Hmm....seems like theres something left of it that is still throwing sticks in the wheel. Before you start over, make sure iBooksFix is uninstalled and also that everything that has anything to do with ibooks is cleaned out, dont forget deleting the com.apple.iBooks and the com.apple.iBooksFix from /var/mobile/Library/Caches and then reboot and start over. That might have something to do with it.

I came across that too one time as I was testing my theory, (I tested this tutorial about 20 times before publishing! ) It happened to me as I had done everything accordingly to every step and realized I still had Cydias iBooksfix installed and went into Cydia and removed it. When I came back to my homescreen the icon was gone!
I went back in with iFile and started over from scratch, (it doesnt take very long), deleted the iBooks.app file and the cache files (com.apple.ibooks and com.apple.ibooksfix and iconscache) and resprung.
Then downloaded iBooks from appstore and went through it again and it worked. Got the square icon which is fixed with replacing the icons in var/stash/Applications and deleting the iconscache file and then respringing! try it and get back to me!

Yeah. I did have it installed before, but removed it a few days ago when that wasn't even working to fix 1.3.2. Cysia isn't showing it as an installed package. I even tried this method twice.. Restoring several times, even rebooted.... I'll try everything again. Just for the sake of trying again.

hmm..odd! Thats probably the only thing to do! Its not like my jailbreak and ios 5 should be any different from yours (in foundation that is as far as installing a package)..
Im at work right now, but as soon I get back to the den, im gonna run some tests and see if I can pin down the errors more exact...
stay in touch and let me know how it works out!

Will do. I'm going to wipe out everything iBooks via idle and start over after a respring.
Thanks for the help

Ok... Just went through the steps again and this time it worked. I see an icon (haven't placed the fixed ones in yet, so all I see is a grey box, but it's working.) not sure what was different this time, but oh well.
Thanks for everything!

Trying to pin down a fix for the white icon problem that some of you have...brb
oh, one more thing, since i dont have the problem anymore its kinda hard, im essentially creating errors on purpose to try and create the white icon dilemma. its a long road..
If you have the white icon, please do me (and the rest of us) a favor and try these things.
-open the "multitasking tray" and kill the ibook app, respring.
-instead of just replacing the icons for your specific device, replace all of them and vice versa.
dont forget to delete iconscache and empty trash in ifile before respring.
-if youre experimenting with other ways, dont forget to pen down notes of exactly what youre doing, if it works I wanna know!
Thanks everybody!

trying to put the replacement icons now, and noticing that I don't have an ibiooks.spp folder in var\stash\applications. hmmmm.... still have grey icon after restrings too....

okey.....something went wrong when you copy/linked the app in /Applications to the stash/applications folder, which is ok in this case if youre open for some experimentation.
Is the ibooks.app in the /Applications folder? if so, replace the icons in that ibooks.app folder and respring.
let me know!
and thanks!

well then ... that might be something ... the instructions never said to put anything in the stash /applications folder....
4. Cut iBooks.app and paste it in /Applications
5. Select iBooks.app press Copy/Link
6. Go back to /var/mobile/Applications/(iBooks folder)/ select Create Link instead of paste to create a symbolic link
regardless... I did think to replace the icons in the ibooks.app folder and respiring.. no luck.
ok .... here's what I tried... cut and moved the ibooks.app folder to the stash/aplications folder.. relinked it in the applications folder respiring.. icon is there... app crashes on start...
should I purge everything and start over

the var/mobile/applications folder is linked to the stash folder and creates a 'symbolic link' to it. Thats what needs to happen. If successful you should get a square icon on the homescreen..
yup. try again..I know I did it a handful of times before it worked. Aaand now Im gonna do it again as my OCD is kicking in...lol
Thanks James and keep me posted!

Well... I erased everything and started from scratch.. for whatever reason, when I place the ibooks.app folder in the stash/applications folder and then link that to the ibooks folder in mobile/applications it crashes on starting... the icon shows up... but it never opens.
When I put the ibooks.app folder into the mobile/applications folder (rather than going to stash/applications) and link it back from there to the ibooks folder, it runs... grey box icon.. but the app runs... gonna think it through later, maybe figure it out... if you have any suggestions let me know. I'm stumped
if I have to live with a grey box.. I'll I've with a grey box as long as it works for now.

Just saw this update.. cool Tanks for looking into it. Of course the latest release of Redsn0w fixes the problem altogether.
Just reboot with the latest build, no need for additional editing, or re-jailbreak.

Yes, just upgraded my iPhone 4 baseband 4.10.01 to iOS 5.0.1 with CFW by sn0wbreeze then jailbroke and unlock by Gevey sim for T-Mobile. iBook now works fine with iOS 5.0.1
