Default Lost built-in apps after JB to 5.0.1

I updated my jailbroken 3GS from iOS 4.3.3 to 5.0.1. I then synced with iTunes 10.5.1 to get all my purchased apps back, reload music, etc. Everything looked okay until I rebooted (I think I did this because of No Carrier message). When it came back up, I had only a few purchased apps, and no built-in apps except 3 new 5.0 apps (Videos, Newstand, and Reminders). I don't have Phone, Contacts, System, etc. And of course, not having System prevents me from checking any of the info available on the About page.

I went back to iTunes and resynced, which brought back all my purchased apps, but still no built-in apps. I do have Cydia, and it works fine. I loaded ultrasn0w to try to get rid of the No Carrier message, but I now understand that it doesn't support 5.0.1 yet. I don't know how I missed that detail before upgrading.

    So now, two questions:

    1. I understand I cannot downgrade to 5.0 now. Is it possible to downgrade back to 4.3.3? Anything I need to be aware of in doing so, or is the process just like I originally used to jailbreak on 4.3.3?

    2. Does anyone know why I lost the built-in Apple apps? How can I get them back? Will downgrading to 4.3.3 to allow me to unlock again also take care of the missing apps?

    Thanks.

    Duane

PS: I'm on baseband 6.15.00, iTunes 10.5.1, OSX 10.6.8, redsn0w 0.9.9b8, iPhone2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw (for redsn0w purposes), and iPhone2,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw on the phone. I need to unlock again, because I'm in Mexico and using the phone on Telcel.

    1. You can downgrade to 4.3.3 if you have SHSH blobs saved. If no SHSHs, you can downgrade to 4.1.
    2. Probably just a simple fluke. A restore to 5.0.1 (or downgrade if you really want to) should resolve the issue. It's happened to me before. Be sure to use a custom fw bc you are on the 6.15.00 bb.

This same thing happened to me when I jailbroke on 5.0.1 with my 3gs. It seems to me that 5.0 jb's are sometimes just bad... Do a restore to 5.0.1 official, then rejailbreak it. It should be fine

I did have the 4.3.3 SHSH blobs saved, and I needed to unlock, so I downgraded. Everything went fine, but when it rebooted, I had the white Cydia icon. There are evidently two versions of this problem, and mine is the one where Cydia will not open. When I click on the icon, it flashes briefly then closes to the switcher. I have tried several fixes recommended for this issue, but none have worked so far. Seems like I'm getting the tour of all possible jailbreak issues this time, after a really smooth process 9 months ago.

Anyway, I can't resolve this by running redsn0w and unchecking Install Cydia and checking Just Boot Tethered. I've tried this with the redsn0w version I originally used (0.9.6rc16) and the one I used to "upgrade" (0.9.9b8). My iPhone is currently on iOS 4.3.3, baseband 6.15.00. The About page shows carrier & network as not available. I need to get Cydia working so I can use Ultrasn0w to unlock the phone again, as I'm in Mexico and need to use it on Telcel.

    Any suggestions?

    Duane
