A little brief intro since I'm new here. I've been trolling this site for about a week now just getting some general info because I'm new to the iPhone and the jailbreaks. A lot of great information for noobs such as I. I bought an iPhone 4 for AT&T with iOS5 off a guy I work with and he jailbroke it with Redsnow 0.9.9. I liked it at first but it's given me some problems...
Firstly, I don't know if I'm the only one, but my phone will randomly go to the Apple logo and reboot (luckily I have the semi-tethered jailbreak) mostly when I'm not even using it. It's really annoying me because then I can't use the internet and whatnot after the reboot. Seeing as how I'm only home 8-9 hours a day it's definitely an inconvenience. I read somewhere that turning off Location Services will stop that problem but it didn't do that for me. I've also read the semi-tether is buggy I don't really know. If anyone knows how to fix this that would be great!!!
I've also tried upgrading from the iOS5 to 5.0.1 because I don't really need the jailbreak but I get the Error 3194. I've read a lot on here people use TinyUmbrella to fix that or something but I honestly have no idea how to do any of that. If I can fix my previous problem I don't really care about the upgrade. I would prefer to downgrade to 4.3.3 from what I've heard from friends but that seems like way too big of a task for a noob. If anyone could help me out and explain some of this I would really appreciate it.
So what do u want to do?...downgrade to 4.3.3?....
If so, open Cydia and see what shsh's show up near the top of screen...if 4.3.3 shows up there, then u can go to that.. No blobs= no downgrade...
I assume since u say phone is currently jb'd u can open Cydia....
If no Cydia, download and install latest tinyumbrella.. Run that in winxp compatibility mode and as administrator on win7... Plug in phone, click on connected device on left side, click on save shsh on right side, go to advanced tab check request shsh from Cydia checkbox and click save shsh again. Go to log tab and see what shsh u have...also make sure set hosts to Cydia on exit is NOT checked on advanced tab.. Let us know what shsh u have showing, we'll go from there..
Make sure you are using the latest version of semitether (upgrade it in cydia). While booted in a Jailbroken state, open the semitether app and turn on the safari option. Now you can use safari and email when booted in a non Jailbroken state. Alternatively, since you don't mind not being Jailbroken, restore your phone in iTunes to a stock 5.01 and wait for an untethered jailbreak.
Side note, you may have shot yourself in the foot by restoring/upgrading to 5.01 because it is expected that there will be an untether for 5.0 way before 5.01 according to the devs. Of course they give 5 word updates with little to know direction for what us end users should be doing every month or so, so nobody really knows what to expect
Firstly thanks for the quick responses. I should make it a little clearer because I just realized I didn't in the first post... I currently am running iOS5 and not 5.0.1. I tried upgrading to the 5.0.1 but got the error 3194. The only reason I really cared to get 5.0.1 was because it supposedly saves battery life. However, I'd much rather either get my current jailbreak working properly or even better, downgrade to 4.3.3.
To xboxbml, I opened up Cydia and it says SHSH 4.3.5 so I guess that means I can't go all the way back to 4.3.3 right? Was there even an untethered JB on 4.3.5?
To thecrunked, I couldn't find a newer version of semitether but just to be certain I deleted it and reinstalled. I also tried restoring my iPhone back to a stock iOS5 until the untether jailbreak comes out but that's when I got the Error 3194. I have no idea what to do about that.
No, u can't go back from 4.3.5. You also can't restore to 5.0 as apple isn't signing that ver anymore..u would have to go up to 5.0.1 if u wanted to stay in 5.x
