Bricked iPhone 4! DFU & Recovery mode don't work! :/
Hi, I'm new!

I started a thread in the wrong section so apologies if you have seen this more than once:
I can't boot past the apple logo, I have (HAD lol) a JB iPhone 4 on iOS 5.
It will hang at the Apple logo (it did all night last night) and I can put it into DFU and Recovery modes but it will not restore form eiter of these modes (tried iOS 5 & 5.0.1 on Mac & PC) Is there any way I can access the file system in either of those modes or whilst stuck on the Apple logo? Apparently removing the battery for a period of time might work as well?
Software used (all latest versions) :
iExplorer
DiskAid
TinyUmbrella
Redsn0w (JB)
PhoneView
Thanks.
Below is what my iPhone showed after I tried to re-jailbreak (this was after I had tried everything else).

Edit: I can get to the Jailbreak stage in Redsn0w where you select options - is there a custom bundle I can use to reset the phone, change it or remove apps?Last edited by eric1122; 12-01-2011 at 06:43 AM.

Did you know that your jailbreak is a tethered jailbreak, a just boot should bring your iphone back to springboard.

Yes I was aware of that. I was using SemiTether as well. It doesn't work I have tried every software method I can think of - justboot, re-jailbreak, restore, upgrade, downgrade, pwnd DFU. Everything! Still no luck. No Apple stores near me and I'm assuming they wouldn't touch it anyway?
It seems to be 'acting' in recovery mode while showing the apple logo - it shows up in iTunes as Recovery mode and everything - and yes, I have tried restoring and just booting in this 'apple logo recovery mode'. Still nothing! :/

Restore again and don't use semi tether

Title of my thread hints that my iPhone won't restore - Semitether has nothing to do with it - i meant I know that it was a tethered JB and that I used semitether on it. I don't know why you thought I meant I'm using semitether during the restore? It's obviously a Cydia app so it doesn't make sense to be saying that I am using it or telling me not to use it...
... Sorry, Let me be clear - no matter what I do, I can't get past the boot logo!
I can get into pwned DFU, normal DFU and recovery mode(s) but my iPhone fails every time I try to restore.
Can you pass this around the other moderators if you have time please! I've never heard of this problem before. As far as I know every other case I've read about people just DFU then restore - I can't do this!

What itunes error are you getting ? There is no such thing you cannot restore to 5.0.1 as apple is still signing it. Try a different computer.

Erm this one:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build.
Happens with both iOS 5 & 5.0.1 on two PCs and my Mac :/
Is it worth removing the battery for about 2 minutes (i'm out of warranty) to see if that resets any part of the hardware?Last edited by eric1122; 12-01-2011 at 08:03 PM.

Run tiny Umbrella and uncheck set hosts file to cydia, close it. Do your restore to 5.0.1 again.
Edit :
Are you able to restore now ?Last edited by iYeow; 12-01-2011 at 08:31 PM.

SAME PROBLEM HERE. iphone 4 tethered @ 5.0. stuck at apple logo, can't restore with itunes, cant "just boot". redsnow hangs at "waiting for reboot" (the phone reboots, but just into the logo loop). When itunes tries to restore (recovery mode or DFU), after "prepairing iphone for restore" the iphone reboots and itunes gets lost and shows me a 21 error.... I don't see any options here ://

well i have an idea, since its so easy to remove the battery from the iphone 4, will it do a kind of "hard-reset" ? has anyone tried that?

It was already unchecked but TinyUmbrella is only able to see the phone in DFU or recovery, not in the boot logo loop. I tried kicking it out of recovery and the application just quit

I ordered a iPhone 4 screwdriver the other day, should be able to do a 'battery reset' at 11am EST (4pm GMT). Is it worth it?Last edited by eric1122; 12-02-2011 at 07:32 AM.

i even took it to the apple store, they were fiddling with it for 2 hours, no restore was possible... strange though. nothing worked, people were telling me its bricked. but, wait for it..... I FIXED IT :] dont know if this helps others with similar problems, but here's what i did:
1) removed the back cover of the iphone, disconnected the battery, waited 5 minutes, reconnected everything up again (NOT sure if this was what fixed it, probably not though.)
2) used snowbreze to make a jailbroken 5.0.1 (snowbreze also put the phone in pwned dfu)
3) restored it with itunes by pressing shift + restore.
really hope this helps someone out! cheers.

well, yes, quite different, maybe its not using another exploit, but the procedure sure is different. give it a try and post back.

Ha, who needs moderators when we can figure this stuff out for ourselves! All I can say is thank **** for Sn0wbreeze! it sorted my phone out then I restored again and updated to vanilla iOS 5.0.1!
Going to JB again with Redsn0w in a bit too!

D'oh! Now my iPhone won't Jailbreak (5.0.1) Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 says the FW is not recognized (tried on 2 PCs and a Mac). Won't even let me select it in the extras option - I've read the info, 0.9.9b8 is supposed to work with 5.0.1 isn't it?

You browse to 5.0 not 5.0.1 firmware.

What the hell? I just had this problem last night as well. I just downloaded some updates in cydia and it said to respring. So I hit the respring button and after that it would always freeze at the spinning wheel when booting up. Took two hours of messing with hosts files, using tiny umbrella, trying it on a pc and my macbook. Eventually I just gave up and updated to 5.0.1 as that was the only way to get my phone working.
Debating staying un-jailbroken until the untethered jb is released. This is the 3rd time this has happened and I'm sick of it.WHITE 32GB Verizon iPhone 4 - 5.0.1

You are not the only one, I am also at 5.0.1. Untethered jailbreak won't happen so soon as apple has patched some holes in 5.0.1. It is your call, stay unjailbroken or have a tethered jailbreak.

Dammit, I just can't do it. I miss 5 icon dock, a real flashlight, and all the countless other tweaks only available via jailbreak.
This time I'll do the semi-tether thing and hope I don't have anymore problems.WHITE 32GB Verizon iPhone 4 - 5.0.1
