ok, I downloaded tiny umbrella , ran it , and this is what I'm getting.

I can't press the exit recovery mode button since its not hilighted. I hit the start TSS server and it starts but doesn't seem to be doing anything. I also did what the tutorial said, and opened itunes and hit the restore , went to the 4.1 restore FW , but still got the error saying it couldn't restore.

I'm now getting error 1604 , I've tried using different USB ports and still getting the same error.

Doh, , so obvious after the fact.

ok, so I went back and tried to jailbreak using redsn0w 9.6b6 and I'm now getting a USB error.

I went back and ran tiny umbrella and its saying I'm now on FW 4.1
I don't think it installed correctly , though, since I can't get to the screen with the icons. The only thing I see when I turn it on is a message that says slide for emergency.
what should I do now?

I hope I haven't bricked this thing beyond repair. trying to restore through itunes is giving me errors every time. I really don't know what to do next. I've read so many different tutorials and watched so many youtube videos that I'm going insane. nothing I've done is working the way I've seen the tutorials work. The problem is that I can't seem to find a tutorial with the exact situation as I'm in so I've tried to follow them as best I can , but I have had no success.

as you can see by your post #24 , something as simple as hilighting the device , in hindsight seems simple , but I've never used the program before so I didn't know to do that until you told me to.

so, again , even before I attempt to jailbreak , or unlock ,or restoring I'm stuck with the new problem of getting out of this emergency screen thing. I just feel that I'm going backwards.

Redsn0w or Limera1n can hacktivate and jailbreak for you from Emergency screen.

I think I'm gonna have to try Limera1n then, since Redsn0w hasn't worked for me so far.

*update*

Limera1n isn't working either, I started it, hit make it rain and it just hangs saying "waiting for device"

I also tried unplugging the iphone and plugging it back in and , it seems like it was working , it said " in DFU mode... wait"

but that's as far as it gets. I don't know how long I'm supposed to wait for it , but I waited about 15 minutes but nothing changed. I also don't see anything on the phone's screen. In another tutorial it said I'm supposed to see a green raindrop on the iphone's screen , which I don't see.

I don't know if I was doing it right , I couldn't get it to do step 3 and 4. only unplugging it and plugging it back in showed step 6. that's when it sat there and gave no indication that it was doing anything. Did i miss anything here?

are you sure this will work for a 3G iphone?

the list of supported devices doesn't mention the iphone 3G so I got to wondering if it will work on my particular phone.

this one says it will only work with itunes 10, not 10.1 and above. I just checked and my version of itunes is 10.5.1.42 , is there any way for me to downgrade back to 10?

If this is a 3g iphone, at 4.1, redsn0w 0.9.6b6 should work without any problem. It is possible you have a hardware problem with your iphone or computer. It cannot be so difficult.

I didn't think it would be this hard either. I doubt its a hardware problem , since I was able to connect to itunes and everything seemed to be working before I started messing around with it.

if you go back to my first post you can see I mentioned it was already jailbroken before I started screwing with it. I was just trying to unlock it to work with a new SIM card. The only thing I can think of , is that I screwed up the FW somehow, and didn't get it to install properly when I was trying to downgrade it back to 4.1, and now its not taking the jailbreak with limera1n. do you think that's a possibility?

Is limera1n supposed to be able to restore corrupted FW , or does it need to have working FW first?

I need to try to pinpoint what to try to do first, because it would be kind of pointless to keep trying to jailbreak if I need to restore the FW first.
right now I just want to get it out of the emergency screen, then I'll try to jailbreak.

I was thinking of trying to re-install the 4.2.1 FW that was on it before I started messing with it and go from there.
