Info on JB
Hello guys, this is my first post, and i'm really new to jb. I just got a new iPhone 4 gsm a week ago. Its locked by my current network.
I did read a lot of things, to get started.
My question is. I wanna jailbreak this 4.2.1 device untethered. I can't update to 4.3.3, since i couldn't save the blobs. Also i saved the 5.0.1 blobs with TinyUmb, and will save the 4.2.1 with iFaith.
Should i use redsn0w or greenpois0n, everybody says that redsn0w is much better, but i really can't find a guide to jailbreak the iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 untethered with redsn0w. All guides that i found is tethered. Except for the greepois0n. If there is some redsn0w untethered for my device, should i use the latest redsn0w release?
Just one more thing, i have the device locked on my carrier, but i really don't need to unlock it, since its my current network. Can i jailbreak a locked device or should i unlock it first, here in my country they are still unlocking it officially. I just don't know if i should unlock it first officially before doing the jailbreak process. Its possible to apple block my IMEI somehow after jailbreaking it, so i wouldn't be able to unlock it officially on a near future if wanted to?
Hope you get it
Thanks!!

You cannot unlock your iphone with software anyway. Use redsnow 0.9.6 RC 19 to jailbreak.
Apple will not block your imei in any way.

From my understanding, if you bought the iphone under contract and you are in good standings with your carrier for 3 months. You can request an official unlock if you say you are going to travel overseas.
ATNT may not do it in the States while others will.

Do your ifaith shsh dump first before your jailbreak just in case anything should happen.

Don't know semi unlocked mean. It could mean you are unlocked as long as you are using their carrier, so it will still be locked to other carrier.

I tried jailbreaking it with greenpois0n, i did everything right, but after the boot logo, it shows an itunes logo and a cable to connect, look like recovery mode i dont know. All the videos i've seen, after the boot logo(greenpoison skull), the device just bootup. If i open iTunes it says that my device is in recovery mode, that famous pop up. What should i do? I'm running
I'm running iTunes 10.1.2.17.
Oh, just to let you know, the iFaith signed ipsw that i created for 4.2.1 worked very well, i just restored it to 4.2.1.
Thank you mate
Edit: Ok, forget what i said above, i just run greenpois0n again, and it worked. Just boot up without any problem. My question, after downloading cydia, when i open it, it ask me if want to do an Essential Update, or a Complete Update. Do you know which one should i choose?
