Default This 3GS Has Some Major Issues.

Okay so here is the just of things. I bought my friends old 3GS that he managed to get stuck in what I assumed was just a reboot loop. It had iOS 4.1 on it, and messed up one day so he just did a restore to 4.1 and it started hanging on the apple logo. I figure heck, I'll get it off him, fix it, and resale it on ebay and make a few bucks, but oh no...not happening. This is an iPhone from Hades. It will restore back to 4.1 fine, but then when it finishes and reboots the apple logo stays, but iTunes recognizes it like the phone is all the way booted up to where I can see all the sync options and stuff. When I open tinyumbrella it recognizes the phone too but the "Installed Firmware Version" slot is blank. I've tried putting it in DFU and then pwned DFU to do a restore of a custom 4.1 ispw with no luck there. Tried just letting iTunes do a stock fw update to 5.0.1 and no luck there either. All it will do it just stick at the apple logo or sometimes it'll pop up that spinning circle and stick on it.

    Device Info: iPhone 3GS on 4.1 w/ Baseband 06.15.00

When you restore to stock 4.1, do you get an error in iTunes? (1015 to be specific?)

You used the "exit recovery" option not the "fix recovery" one right? In TU I mean.

yes I did. Not sure if it'd make any difference but I did get error 3914 on one restore so I downloaded iTunes 10.5.1 beta 3 and that solved that problem. After is when I started getting the 1015 error and then kicking it out of recovery with those 2 programs. Now the 4.1 restore just runs through like it works with no errors and then it just gets stuck again.

Hm...I wonder if it's still a software problem then. You said you tried custom 4.1? Try it again, ensure you get it into pwned DFU before restoring to cFW.

Try a custom 4.1 with the iPad bb packaged in and try one without it if the one with doesn't work.

Okay I'm cooking up a new custom 4.1 right now with sn0wbreeze so I'll try that. tiny umbrella said I had an shsh for 4.2.1 too, would that make any difference?
    -edit-
scratch that...there isn't an option for the baseband in sn0wbreeze...

Download one made by pwnagetool. Sorry I can't link you, it's forum policy, you'll have to google.

Oh, pwnagetool was what I used to make the custom one I was using earlier. I'm assuming by default it doesn't have the ipad bb thrown in there?

I'm not sure what it has as default but I believe if you didn't select to have it bundled into the cFW it wouldnt be. It should be under the General menu I think.

yea that option wasn't available for selection in the version of pwnagetool I had so I've found one that should work. Let me get ahold of the iPad ipsw its asking for from somewhere or another and i'll see what happens there. All of the stuff i've seen unless I misread it says you can't downgrade from the iPad bb, so since this one has it already wouldn't that mean an ipsw that didn't have it wouldn't work? You've been a big help btw, dont think i'd said thanks yet.

Well, I tried a 4.1 with the baseband, 4.1 without the baseband, an a 4.2.1 without the baseband. All 3 restored with no errors and it still sticks on the Apple logo. Beyond words frustrating.

Weird, no errors... Does the screen do anything during a restore? Like does it act like its restoring or is it just stuck on the apple logo?

What version of iTunes do you have installed?

Yea the screen flashes and then gets the progress bar, the progress bar fills up, and then when iTunes give the "restored successfully" message the phone reboots and appears in iTunes just like a normal one would but the screens stuck. I've had more than one iPod touch, iPad, and iPhones too, but I've never seen one act like this before. its iTunes 10.5.1b3 by the way.
