I'm sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I have searched all over the forum and maybe my search skills aren't up to par.
Current state: I'm on ipad 1st gen 4.3.3 and the screen is black. the ipad is on though. When I plug it in, I hear it plug in and i hear it working. I can even restore it and sync using itunes. But the screen is completely black. When i push the power button, I can barely see a flicker of the ipad change from a different shade of black. I tried swiping where the "unlock" swipe would be but nothing.
How it started:
I was on tethered jailbreak 4.2.1 for a long time. Then, I decided that it was time to get to an untethered jailbreak 4.2.1 since it exists. So i tried doing a "erase all" from settings. It froze.
So using ireb, i kicked it into pwned DFU. Went to tiny umbrella and tried to do a shift restore on itunes with tss server running to 4.2.1. This is where things got really messed up. not sure what didnt work. I didn't really keep track, but it didnt work. So i tried upgrading to 4.3.3 using the same method. it worked! i saw my new screen clean. then 5 minutes later, the screen turned black. i plug it in and i hear the brrring.
i tried going back to 4.2.1. using the same methods. tried going to 4.3.5. then to 5.0 since i was desperate. now back to 4.3.3. after the "restore is complete, the ipad will reset" the screen was still black and in dfu. so i used redsnow to "boot tethered." then now its back to being a clean ipad but the screen is still black. i hear it on.
i am so frustrated and confused. can anyone relate?
IOS 5 onwards, there won't be any blob saving. When you restore to 5.0.1 which is the current one, you let apple verify your restore. You have to set your hosts file back to apple server if you are still pointed to cydia server.
I made sure the hosts file was clean. No TU running. Did a option click on restore and selected the 5.0.1. Still says ineligible for this version.

Yes. I am able to get to iTunes. It downloaded the ipsw through iTunes. I then copied that file from the appdata / iPad software update folder to my desktop. Then clicked to that ipsw on the restore.
I tried it on a different computer. It is a computer i've used TU on. But I cleaned the hosts file of any reference to gs.apple.com. Rebooted. even went to command prompt to ping gs.apple.com and its going correctly. 17.112.176.11
Now i'm getting error 3194.
iYeow, seriously, I appreciate the help and even going through the trouble. It's much appreciated even if its still not fixed.
Well TU isn't really a program that I can uninstall. I can just run it. I'm gonna go try the restore on a friend's computer who has never messed with JB in general. So it should be a fresh computer. I'll report back later this weekend.
TU is for you to grab, push and verify blob for restore of 4.xx and below. No more using of TU for IOS 5 onwards as apple has changed the signing process.
