Jailbreaking 3GS

Hey guys,
It's been awhile since i've jailbroken and activated an iphone, since iOS 4.2.1.
What I want to know is, is the ipad baseband no longer needed to unlock a 3GS as the baseband is now different for the new firmware? Can I JB and unlock a 3GS with any baseband now, without pointing it to the ipad baseband?(and losing GPS)

If your bb is 05.14, 05.15, 05.16 then ipad bb update is needed for unlock.

So all the BB's from iOS 4.1 or higher require the ipad BB? and will therefore have GPS issues?
